A Simple Twist by The Media

I am always amazed (but at times, disgusted) by the influential power the media has.
Whoever controls the media, is indirectly controlling the world, having the influence to lead the public into thinking the way they want the public thinking, or letting the public know only what they want the public know, hiding some ugly truth behind their reports.

I'm not planning to talk much about the influence of the media, the previous paragraph is only the intro to my post.

I always laughed (but most of the time, disgusted too) at the politics in Malaysia now. Politicians switching parties like changing clothes, accusations of one side to another, back-stabbing etc (oopss.. shdn't be saying a lot on this, i dont really know what happens, again i'm only informed by the media and comprehended the info using my own shallow mind)

Often, during the evening news, we'll be exposed to a lot of the "goodness" of the government and the "badness" and "inefficiency" of the opposition.
The media is bound to praise the government and downgrade the opposition, that is a known fact.
The newsreaders are bound to say sentences like, "keprihatinan kerajaan" or "kelemahan pihak pembangkang" or "kewibawaan pemimpin BN" etc etc...
I am not saying the news are totally wrong but, I believe we must have our own "filter" and judgement to differentiate the truth, the lies and the make-ups.

The oppositions have their own media as well, undeniably.
And it is undeniable that their media will potray their "goodness" and the "badness" and "corruption" of the government.
Again, there must always be personal filter to prevent us from being misled.

Anyhow, let's imagine for a while...
Imagine...just imagine that in the next General Election, the opposition wins and they rule Malaysia. Just imagine...

Now, what will the newsreaders read?
"BN yang masih tidak mahu mengaku kekalahan"
"Kerajaan baru yang tidak melupakan kepentingan rakyat"
etc etc...

What do you think?
Hahahahaha...

Distractions at Home

If I study at home,

I'll be very much attached to the internet in front of me
I'll be going up and down the stairs as an excuse of relieving my body of ache as a result of sitting too much.
I'll be heading to the kitchen every now and then, open the fridge and have a bite or two on whatever edible in the fridge. And my aunt had just came back from Australia, she brought lots of chocs back. Arrghh...
I'll be going to the mirror and start brushing my hair and pin here and there and then get back to my desk.
I'll be going into my room, look at my bed longingly and decided not to sleep.
I'll be pitying myself for having to study and decided to sleep on the couch, putting my alarm 30minutes later. And wakes up 1 hour later.
I'll get frustrated when I dont have enough reference book and hoped I can have a med library at home.

Conclusion: Home Sweet Home

Complexity

Sometimes we need to pay for the mistakes we made in life.

Sometimes we get off it, and continue with our life. It happened to me a lot of times before.

Sometimes we gotta pay for the mistake we made long long time ago, which we thought we got it off.

Sometimes we thought we're paying for a mistake which we conveniently convinced ourselves we did when actually we didnt.

And sometimes, we pay for mistakes that other people did.

Sometimes, just sometimes, we feel so blessed that we made a mistake and now paying for it.

But most of the time, we blamed other people for the mistake we made without knowing we made the mistake. And when we gotta pay for it, we tell ourselves that we're paying for other people's mistake.

Complex enough?
This post is generated out of boredom (a BIG FAT lie). It is also generated because i am too tired to study, and is already drained.

This post came out of nowhere when i decided to complicate my mind which is already very complicated now. And I actually wrote this post on Tuesday 27th April 2010 at 7.45pm. It couldnt be published, I've no idea why. Maybe it's because of the coding.

p/s: To whoever it may concern, i am trying and will do my very best to make things better but i will desperately need cooperation. It takes two to tango... =)

Just a Thought

"How are your studies?"

"How is your exam?"

"When is your exam?"

OR WORSE STILL,

"Do you think you can make it for your exam?"

How am i supposed to answer?

Even if i answered, "No, i dont think i can make it for the coming exam. I still have a lot to study"

Will that make any difference?
The questioner wont be able to do anything also (forget the grammar here)
Duh!

p/s: I'm coughing really badly now, how to stand two hours in lecture later? With the air cond, i'm sure i'l be coughing my heart out and make the hall noisy. Haiz... And PBL later some more, in a small closed room...! Double haiz...

Falling Ill

Anyway, i found out that

Sore throat leads to increased frequency of visits to the toilet.
How? Sore throat leads to cough, leads to increased water intake, leads to increased blood volume leads to decreased water retention leads to increased urine output leads to increased toilet visit frequency.

Pre Amazing Craze

Assalammualaikum.
I know this is a terribly late post but I STUBBORNLY STILL WANT TO WRITE ABOUT IT.
Hahahaha...

Anyway, IMU Muslim Society in collaboration with the Student Rep Council and Stdnt Service if i'm not mistaken, held an Amazing Craze on 27th March 2010. The game is a mimick of the Amazing Race but it's IMU edition and it's held in conjunction with the Earth Week. Each team consists of only two members and I got my husband to be my partner!! Yeay...!! The first prize was 2 tickets to Langkawi, 2nd was two tickets to Genting Highland and 3rd was two tickets to Sunway Lagoon. Me and my husband aimed the Sunway ticket bcos it's been a long time since we've been there, and we've never been there together.

And so, few weeks before the game, we started jogging! Uh wow.. I've nvr jog in the park near IMU before but i jogged bcos we wanted the Sunway ticket. We jogged for about 2-3 evenings per week. Running up the Bukit Komanwel made me realise that my stamina is very very low. I dared not stop jogging bcos I know perfectly well, once i stop i wont be able to start again. I'd better jog until i really cant move my leg anymore.

The game will take place in Kuala Lumpur city, and we weren't allowed to use our own transport. We need to use public transport and i'm because both me and my husband are from KL and we are ~~very~~ quite familiar with public transport in KL. That gave us a plus mark.

Both of us also can communicate well, and will not quarrel with each other and so, i trust or at least hoped that we won't start to fight when we're under the pressure to win. That will make things turn bad for us.

I really anticipated the game...............

What is this all about?
Well, to put it in a simpler sentence, Success Resources is holding National Achievers Congress (NAC) at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre in April 2010 and guess what, they are inviting Tony Blair as their speaker!
This will mean that the man who thought he managed to deceive the world by sending troops to unnecessary countries (read Iraq and Afghanistan) and committed massive murder will be giving a talk on "achievers".
Bizarre enough?
And so, this petition calls for the declaration of Tony Blair as "persona non grata" thus denying him entry into Malaysia and preventing him from speaking in the congress. The petition also demand that Success Resources withdraw their invitation to Blair as a speaker in their congress.

Of Watch and Of Motorcycle

The Watch Story

I was given a watch as my UPSR gift from my mum. It was a POLO watch, the first expensive watch i owned. My watches before that were those Sailormoon, Power Rangers pasar malam watches. I still have the receipt and the watch box with me till now. *Yea i know, i'm just too sentimental to throw them away*

Anyway, the watch cost my mum RM39.90 (only?) in November 2001 and i really treasured the watch. The next year, i went to a district level girl guide camping with few other friends and teachers. It was a 3 days 2 nights camping. On the last day, in the toilet, i took the watch of my hands to shower, and put it next to my other stuff. And i forgot to wear it back after bathing. I went out of the toilet and go for the closing ceremony.

As usual, during and after the closing ceremony of a camp, participants will exchange numbers and addresses so that we can keep in touch with each other (frankly, i forgot where i put all the numbers).
Moments before going into my teacher's car to go back to school, i realised i wasnt wearing my watch, and i remembered vividly putting it next to my pants in the toilet, but i cant remember taking it back. And that was at least 4 hrs ago. The journey back to school was delayed bcos of me. I ran back to the toilet to look for the watch, and i went to look at other places as well. My friends helped in the hunting mission but all of us failed in agony.

And so, i sadly board the teacher's car and head back home. I cried along the way back, and fell asleep.
When i woke up, my eyes were sore, and i remembered back why i cried and tears started to drop again. When my parents fetch me from school, i cried telling them i lost the watch. At home, i cried again praying hard i'll find the watch. I dont even mind if i find it on the day i die. That was the extent of my imagination then...

Currently, i am wearing the watch my mum bought for me before i started my A Levels 3 yrs back, and i'm determined to use it until i finish my medical degree. Really hope i can take good care of the watch this time...

The Motorcycle Story

My mum has been using my car for more than a week now, her car went into "ICU".
And so, since she can't send me to campus, my dad needs to.
And my dad rides a motorbike everyday to work.
This brought us to one simple fact, "I've been going to IMU by motorbike for two consecutive days!"
Wow...
The last time i went on a motorbike, if i am not mistaken was when i took the license, almost 3 yrs back. And so, the first journey ystrday was really exciting and scary.
It was so cold, my legs felt numb, but adrenaline is circulating in high amount in my body that cant stop myself from grinning along the journey, really..
I made few funny faces, playing with the muscles of the face and getting buccal tired by the time i reached IMU. =)

On exam day...
Summative on Friday, 12th March.
I fell sick.. Great...
Hahahahaha....
I cant really answer my paper, slept right after i finished answering, didnt even had the energy to check my answers.... *this could actually be a psychogenic illness but...........*

Post exam syndrome...
I know very well that i didnt do my best for the summative...
But as usual, i dont really sulk over it. This just mean that i need to strive harder for the next exam lah...
This weekend is one of my free-est weekend.
I didnt study at all, only did some of notes organising work, to prepare myself for the coming system, Haematology.

I went to Mines on Saturday, to Metro Kajang on Sunday. I actually planned to watch movie with my sis in Jusco tonight (Sunday) but she's too tired to accompany me (she had just came back from a state level competition in Banting for 2 days). At first i wanna watch Little Big Soldier but, the movie is no more on screen... =(
That's the disadvantage of delaying watching movie session, the movie is no more on screen, to buy the ori DVD, it's too expensive, pirated ones dont come in good quality. Haiz... I heard Alice in Wonderland is a nice fantasy movie, maybe i'll persuade sis to go watch with me, if she has the time and mood (i'm starting to wonder who's the elder sis and who's younger now).

I printed a bundle of notes for the week early this morning, and i'm kinda highly motivated now, want to start a new chapter in my semester 3, to excel in exam... We'll see what i'll be writing here a week before the next summative k, most probably i'll be complaining of lack of preparation... Hahahaha...

Now is 9.06pm and 12hrs from now i should be in IMU lib, to start my day studying hard...again...

Only 5 Days Left

Yea...only 5 days left for my summative 3...
God, i really am not ready for it yet..
I'm drained..
I heard this exam will be making 12.5% of my semester exam! Duh, that's a lot man...
I cant be playing this time, my result will determine my placement for the country i'm going for PMS.
I had nvr had the confident to say it out loud in case i couldn't make it.
But yea, i think i shd be saying it out loud now. A booster for me to achieve higher...

A Story Behind It

Remember PMR History syllabus?

Parameswara, the Prince of Palembang which was ruled by Majapahit, ran to Temasik (Singapore).
There, he was treated nicely by Temagi, the ruler of Temasik. At that time, Temasik was under the power of the Siamese.

Now, what happened then?
The history goes that Parameswara killed Temagi, to get Temasik under his rulings.
But when Siam got to know that their representative, Temagi was killed, thet sent a troop to Temasik to capture Parameswara.
Parameswara then ran to Malaya and settled down in Malacca.
He built an empire in Malacca, and later started sending "protection money" to Siam so that they wont come and attack Malacca.

Now, time to think (or maybe imagine....)
Parameswara, the prince who managed to build Malacca, must be a smart man.
Even if not very smart, he can't be stupid, can he?
Why then, did he "foolishly" kill Temagi to get Temasik? Obviously he knew that Temasik is under Siam's ruling, and Siam was a VERY powerful country at that time, why then did he find trouble?
There was no way he can escape from killing Temagi could he?

Now, imagination comes in.
Who knows, Temagi actually flirted with Parameswara's wife or perhaps daughter at that time...
Then Parameswara was challenged, and killed Temagi.
Sounds logic right?
It's just like those Chinese Dynasties. The history is one thing, the story behind it is another.
Be it the admiral fell in love with the enemy's princess, or one of the 500 emperor's concubines.
Or one of the concubines tried to kill the empress to get the emperor's attention.
Or one of the princes tried to overthrow his own father so that he can be crowned.
Or anything at all.... (ok ok, maybe this is kinda too fairy tale but it can still happen, i'm sure)
There are reasons in every single thing that happen in this world.

So, i am vry sure something happened btw Temagi and Parameswara more than 800 yrs ago.
But the history i studied at school just stated that Parameswara wanted to overthrow Temagi, which for me is a very very foolish act.

Ok, i'm sorry that i really didnt do any extra reading before writing this. I dont know if any of our historian described what really happened but MOST Malaysian children only know what was taught at school, and that includes me.

p/s: Been long since i write. Haiz.. Exam in 2 weeks time, die die... A lot more to study.

How I Come To Love The Veil - by Yvonne Ridley

As stated, the article below is not written by me but by Yvonne Ridley.
It inspires me a lot and i would like to share it with everyone. The original article can be found here.

POLITICIANS AND JOURNALISTS just love to write about the oppression of women in Islam ... without even talking to the females beneath the veil.

They simply have no idea how Muslim women are protected and respected within the Islamic framework which was built more than 1400 years ago.

Yet, by writing about cultural issues like child brides, female circumcision, honor killings and forced marriages they wrongly believe they are coming from a point of knowledge.

And I am sick of Saudi Arabia being cited as an example of how women are subjigated in a country where they are banned from driving.

The issues above have simply nothing to do with Islam yet they still write and talk about them with an arrogant air of authority while wrongly blaming Islam. Please do not confuse cultural behavior with Islam.

I was asked to write about how Islam allows men to beat their wives. Sorry, not true. Yes, I'm sure critics of Islam will quote random Qur'anic verses or ahadith but all are usually taken out of context. If a man does raise a finger to his wife, he is not allowed to leave a mark on her body ... this is another way of the Qur'an saying; "Don't beat your wife, stupid".

Now let's take a glance at some really interesting statistics, hmm. I can almost hear the words pot, kettle, black. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, four million American women experience a serious assault by a partner during an average 12-month period.

On the average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands and boyfriends every day . . . that is nearly 5,500 women battered to death since 9/11.

Some might say that is a shocking indictment on such a civilized society, but before I sound too smug, I would say that violence against women is a global issue. Violent men do not come in any particular religious or cultural category. The reality is that one out of three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime. Violence against women transcends religion, wealth, class, skin color and culture.

However, until Islam came on the scene women were treated as inferior beings. In fact we women still have a problem in the West where men think they are superior. This is reflected in our promotion and wages structure right across the spectrum from cleaners to career women who make it into the boardroom.

Western women are still treated as commodities, where sexual slavery is on the rise, disguised under marketing euphemisms, where womens’ bodies are traded throughout the advertising world. As mentioned before, this is a society where rape, sexual assault, and violence on women is commonplace, a society where the equality between men and women is an illusion, a society where a womens’ power or influence is usually only related to the size of her breasts.

I used to look at veiled women as quiet, oppressed creatures and now I look at them as multi-skilled, multi-talented, resilient women whose brand of sisterhood makes Western feminism pale into insignificance. My views changed after the truly terrifying experience of being arrested by the Taleban for sneaking into Afghanistan in September 2001 wearing the bhurka.

During my 10-day captivity I struck a deal that if they let me go I would read the Quran and study Islam. Against all the odds, it worked and I was released. In return I kept my word but as a journalist covering the Middle East I realized I needed to expand my knowledge of a religion which was clearly a way of life.

And no. I'm not a victim of Stockholm Syndrome. To be a victim you have to bond with your captors. During my imprisonment I spat, swore, cursed and abused my jailers as well as refusing their food and going on hunger strike. I don't know who was happier when I was released - them or me!

Reading the Quran was, I thought, going to be a very simple academic exercise. I was stunned to discover that ut clearly stated women are equal in spirituality, education and worth. A woman’s gift for child birth and child-rearing is very much recognised as a quality and attribute. Muslim women say with pride they are homemakers and housewives.

Furthermore The Prophet (pbuh) said that the most important person in the home was The Mother, The Mother, The Mother. In fact he also said that heaven lies at the feet of the mother. How many women make it into the top 100 power lists for simply being a "great mother"?

With Islam choosing to remain at home and raise children takes on a new dignity and respect in my eyes, similar to those sisters among us who choose to go out to work and have careers and professions.

I then began looking at inheritance, tax, property and divorce laws. This is where Hollywood divorce lawyers probably get their inspiration from. For instance the woman gets to keep what she earns and owns while the man has to stump up half his worth.

Isn’t it funny the way the tabloid media gets very excited over the prospect of some pop or film stars pre-nuptial wedding agreement? Muslim women have had wedding contracts from day one. They can choose if they want to work or not and anything they earn is theirs to spend while the husband has to pay for all the household bills and the upkeep of his family.

Just about everything that feminists strived for in the 70s was already available to Muslim women 1400 years ago.

As I said, Islam dignifies and brings respect to motherhood and being a wife. If you want to stay at home, stay at home. It is a great honor to be a home maker and the first educater of your children.

But equally, the Quran states if you want to work, then work. Be a career woman, learn a profession become a politician. Be what you want to be and excel in what you do as a Muslim because everything you do is in praise of Allah (swt).

There is an excessive, almost irritating concentration or focus on the issue of Muslim womens’ dress particularly by men (both Muslim and non-Muslim).

Yes, it is an obligation for Muslim women to dress modestly but, in addition, there are many other important issues which concern Muslim women today.

And yet everyone obsesses over the hijab. Look, it is part of my business suit. This tells you I am a Muslim and therefore I expect to be treated with respect.

Can you imagine if someone told a Wall Street executive or Washington banker to put on a t-shirt and jeans? He would tell you his business suit defines him during work hours, marks him out to be treated seriously.

And yet in Britain we have had the former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw describing the nikab - the face veil revealing only the eyes - as an unwelcome barrier. When, oh when, will men learn to keep their mouths shut over a woman's wardrobe?

We also had Government Ministers Gordon Brown and John Reid express disparaging remarks about the nikab - both these men come from over the Scottish Borders where men wear skirts!!

Then we had a series of other parliamentarians enter the fray describing the nikab as a barrier for communication. What a load of nonsense. If this was the case can anyone explain to me why cell phones, landlines, emails, text messaging and fax machines are in daily use? Who listens to the radio? No one switches off the wireless because they can not see the face of the presenter.

The majority of sisters I know who choose to wear the nikab are actually white, Western reverts who no longer want the unwelcome attention of those few leering men who will try and confront females and launch into inappropriate behavior. Mind you, there are a couple of London sisters I know who say they wear the nikab at anti-war marches because they can't stand the smell of spliffs.

I am afraid Islamophobia has become the last refuge of the racist scoundrel. But the cowardly, chauvinistic attacks launched - largely by men - is unacceptable to Muslimahs as well as their secular, female sisters from the left.

I was a feminist for many years and now, as an Islamic feminist, I still promote womens' rights. The only difference is Muslim feminists are more radical than their secular counterparts. We all hate those ghastly beauty pageants, and tried to stop laughing when the emergence of Miss Afghanistan in bikini was hailed as a giant leap for women's liberation in Afghanistan.

I've been back to Afghanistan many times and I can tell you there are no career women emerging from the rubble in Kabul. My Afghan sisters say they wish the West would drop its obsession with the bhurka. "Don't try turning me into a career woman, get my husband a job first. Show me how I can send my children to school without fear of them being kidnapped. Give me security and bread on the table," one sister told me.

Young feminist Muslimahs see the hijab and the nikab as political symbols as well as a religious requirement. Some say it is their way of showing the world they reject the excesses of Western lifestyles such as binge drinking, casual sex, drug-taking etc.

Superiority in Islam is accomplished through piety, not beauty, wealth, power, position or sex.

Now you tell me what is more liberating. Being judged on the length of your skirt and the size of your cosmetically enhanced breasts, or being judged on your character, mind and intelligence?

Glossy magazines tell us as women that unless we are tall, slim and beautiful we will be unloved and unwanted. The pressure on teenage magazine readers to have a boyfriend is almost obscene.

Islam tells me that I have a right to an education and it is my duty to go out and seek knowledge whether I am single or married.

No where in the framework of Islam are we told as women that we must do washing, cleaning or cooking for men - but it is not just Muslim men who need to re-evaluate women in their home. Streamyx, bad?

Salam.
Lately i can only go online when i am in IMU.
This is due to the fact that the No1 broadband in Malaysia actually frustrated me.
My modem lights keep blinking, indicating of the lack of internet connection.
Interestingly enough, every time i take up the house phone to call streamyx, the light stopped blinking, they stay lit.

And this doesnt happen only once.
When i first called streamyx, i gotta go through lines of operators.
Untuk BM press 1, for English press 2
For telephone and data, press1. For internet, press 2 and bla bla bla...

And by the time i reach a human to talk to, their staff, the lights are stable and steady. NO BLINKING.
So, i dont hv any report to be done anymore, and according to the telephonist who checked my acc, i am connected to the internet.
Then, i say thank you and hang up.
Then, the lights start blinking again!
Aaaaaiiiisssshhhh............

I didnt notice the pattern at first but after a few idiotic attempts to call them to report and putting the phone down when the modem lights go stable, i finally see the pattern.
And so, every night after IMU, if i want to go online, i would hv to do a phone call using my hse phone.
So far, i've only called streamyx and hang up JUST BEFORE i am connected to the telephonist.
And then, i will call them again, hear all the adverts and instructions from the operator, to keep my internet going and then putting down the phone again JUST BEFORE i am connected to the human telephonist.

I hv yet to try calling other ppl to see if the same trick works.
U see, i cant just put down on ppl while they were talking neither can i talk while surfing the internet at the same time.
And so, life is a test.
And without doubt, i am writing this in IMU library.... =P

Keeping My Hands Clean

Salam.
Yesterday during dinnet, my brother told the family "I dissected a frog yesterday!"
And i was like =.="

Due to some inevitable situation, i missed the frog dissecting session when i was form 4.
And he continued,
"I thought i'll hv goosebumps holding the slimy green frog but it turned out very well! I felt like a pro...!"
"I cut the frog open, and oh man, the skin can easily be teared off. And i can see the frog's heart beating!"
"And we saw the liver and the intestine. And my friends are making jokes abt seeing the duodenum, the pancreas and all....."

"And at the end of the lab session, we decided to "destroy" the frog. We took all organs out and at last, we saw the spinal cord! In the empty frog body!"

Duh!
I'm jealous...
Been hearing abt friends in other med school dissecting cadaver almost every day, and here in IMU we're merely dissecting the models in medical museum (Keep telling myself, i hv to be grateful.... At least i get a chance to study medicine! Things can be a lot worse.... At least i'm not in Gaza, or Haiti)
Now, not only friends, even my younger brother is making me jealous.

He asked me, "What has u done or dissect so far?"
I answered blushingly, "The most i had done, so far, is using that device to check blood glucose level, the one mum has, poke into my own finger, and see my own my blood cells under the microscope".

I really tried to EMPHASISE on the fact that i did a slide on my own blood cells and examine it under the microscope. I'm pretty sure he wont get the chance to do it in school. But me myself wasnt really convinced that examining ur own blood cells is cool, compared to dissecting a living frog!

And of course, the dinner session ended with him laughing his heart out at me saying that even him can teach me to dissect now, and my mum trying to back me up saying she can buy me a living frog from the nearest market for me to dissect. We shall get the equipments from my sister's St John club at school, expertise from my brother, and choloroform from my mum school's lab to anaesthetise the frog. And so, whether or not this self-experiment succeed (which personally i dont think it will), i'll keep my fingers crossed!

Multimedia Palestine Presentation Challenge

Salam.
There will be a challenge to prepare TWO (2) multimedia presentatios and a supporting artwork about the Palestine issue.

This presentation is for the official launching of Viva Palestina Malaysia on March 3rd, 2010.
And i know, there are a lot of my friends, whom are VERY talented in making video presentations, so do hand in your artwork, if time permits! =)

The following details are copied, edited and pasted from www.intechemistry.wordpress.com.
Task: To prepare 2 multimedia presentations (flash or whatever popular/common format) about the Palestine issue and supporting artwork (an A2 poster, which can also be printed in A4 size).

You can go to main Viva Palestina website to get a flavour of VP artwork if you wish. The presentations will be shown to local MP's, foreign MP's and ambassadors (and maybe ex-PM's like Dr Mahathir)

Presentation 1 should be between 10-12 minutes long.
Presentation 2 should be between 5-7 minutes long

The longer presentation can use elements of the shorter presentation if desired.

The presentations should focus on the injustices and crimes suffered by the Palestinians including the theft of their land as well as giving some kind of reference to the horrific attacks they have suffered. Anti-Jewish content is definitely NOT wanted, however anti-Zionist content is welcomed. You will therefore need to understand the difference.

It should be as creative as possible but not too weird/arty as there is a message to get across here.

There should also be mention of the companies Viva Palestina Malaysia has a current campaign calling for a consumer boycott thereof. Products and Companies = Nestle, L’Oreal, Coca-Cola and McDonalds. Very Illogic!

What is?

Korean dramas laaaa....

Why?

1. The heroin is too cute, too silly, too nice, too naive, too kind hearted, too...........................

2. Even if the heroin is from a poor family, but her clothes are all fashionable, new and stylish.

3. The heroin is always pretty, fresh-looking even after 10 rounds of running on the field. No sweat, no nothing. C-L-E-A-N. Her hair is neat, still straight@curly, no "misplaced" fringe.

4.The heroin can fall asleep ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, still looking pretty, and the hero will always have to carry the heroin to an appropriate sleeping place. =.="

5. The heroin will still look vry pretty even afyer crying her heart out.

6. There will ALWAYS be two heroes, one very kind hearted and warm, and one very cool and stubborn. BOTH will fall for the heroin, but the heroin will ALWAYS fall for the cool and stubborn one.

7. Either the hero or the heroin will be super-rich while the other is poor @ from a normal family.

8. The school or univ where the hero or/and heroin attend(s) never conducted any class, nor give sufficient homework or assignments. The characters appear to play, date, and have fun in school. No need to study, no class to attend, no lecturer to be scared off.

9. If the hero is handsome, all the other girls (the extra actresses) can just stare at the heroes, without feeling ashamed of themselves.

10. There is no such thing as "ashamed" for the heroin. They can do anything they want, it will still appear cute.

11. How come the heroin can prepare a very very cute lunch box for the heroes? Lunch box with cartoon food, decorations and stuff? How do they even thought of the food deco? And know how to do it well when they dont even cook daily in the drama?

And i'm pretty sure there are lots and lots more of illogic scenes in the dramas, but yet the dramas achieved high rating among viewers.
I think this is because everyone knows that whatever happens in the drama, WILL NEVER happen in real life, and to watch these dramas, one are brought to the fantasy land.

Anyone else would like to add illogical scenes in the drama?

First Week

Assalammualaikum.

First week of sem 3 had just ended.

Wow, sem 3...

Time sure flies.... =)

The week kicked start beautifully, with Diana registering into IMU as a first year Pharmacy student. I even attended her white coat ceremony. Since Pharm stdnts are not as many as Medicine, they have a special robing ceremony.

Seniors will put on the white coat onto each new student. I cant imagine how long will it take if they do the same for Medical stdnts.

But, only the first week, i started to feel how heavy this sem will be.

Although rumors had it that semester 3 wont be as difficult as sem 2, it is still scary...

There are no more "intro" lectures.

We had a one hour lecture on ECG alone, confusing me with all the leads and vectors. And surely, the lecturer's accent did not help much.

I learnt not to judge ppl quickly this time. Give them more time.

Honestly speaking, last semester, after the first PBL session, i disliked my facilitator.

I thought of her as a "sound pollution".

She kept talking, dominating the session, when she's actually supposed to only facilitate us, not giving us everything.

My 2nd session with her did not get any better. In fact, i dreaded it, and the sessions to come.

However, i didnt realise when i changed my mind.

I gradually grew fonder of her.

I find her a comfortable teacher to be with, easy to approach, humble and friendly.

At the end of the semester, I didnt want to let her go, i wanted her to stay my PBL faci, with the rest of my PBL mates.

Yes, for those who know, i'm talking abt Dr Cho Min Naing.

She's a nice lady.

But, we dont always get what we want, as usual.

I get a new faci, and a whole new PBL mates this time around. Luckily Tay is still in my group, or i'll feel alone. Haha...

My first session with the faci did not go vry well, she didnt allow us to combine our PBLs, which will obviously make us easier.

But i learnt, not to judge. Give her time.

Perhaps i'll grow fonder of her as time passes. Perhaps......

One thing i hate the most this semester is the timing of the lectures!

My lectures are from 1.30 - 3.45 every Mon - Thurs.

And i go for lectures after lunch.

With the aircond, and the "lullaby" by the lecturers, and cushy seats, aren't it just tempting to sleep??

Postpandrial somnolence, the state of drowsiness or lassitude following a meal.

It can even be explained scientifically...!

U eat, ur digestive tract is being filled.

Parasympathetic nervous system predominates, blood flow is channeled to the gastrointestinal system, less blood supply to the rest of the body.

Pupil constriction, heavy eyelids....

And before i know it......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........

I really hope i can find a way to overcome this.

I cant afford to be sleepy in the lecture theater for the nxt 6 months!

Perhaps i shd try skipping my lunch?

Or shd i avoid taking rice?

Or shd i eat only bread?

Haiz.....

And one more abt the timing of the lecture.

It's not suitable for prayers....

Hurm... Class starts at 1.30pm, and ends at 3.45pm with only 15mins break after the first hour.

Zuhur is getting later, and i dont wanna be late for class, neither do i want to perform my prayer late.

It's such a dilemma.

Today's a Saturday, i've been lazing around all day.

And my mum actually confiscated my handphone.

Duh!

She caught me on bed, with laptop switched on (i was watching korean drama) and hp in my hands. And all i was doing at that time, are things she doesnt want me to spend much time on; dramas, messaging, and lazing around. So yeah, been caught red-handed.

She took the phone and hid it.

She asked me not to look for it, and she'll only return it to me after 24hrs.

I have more than 12hrs to go....it's only 6.56pm now....

So for those who tried to reach me, sorry....

I'll get back to u tomorrow.

Ok, that's all my "celoteh" for now.

Apabila Wanita Tak Tahu Memasak

I think i rarely post a Malay language post, but i got this article from an IMU senior's blog. I dont have the time to translate it into English, plus it may not be original if i translate it.

I might just put in some of my opinion in it.

So i guess i'd better just copy paste it.

Kalau perempuan tidak boleh memasak, dikutuk dan disuruh belajar. Kalau lelaki tak boleh jadi imam kita kata ok saja. Jangan diperbesarkan nanti mereka terasa hati...

Wanita sepatutnya buat begitu juga. Syarat utama menjadi suami mesti boleh menjadi imam. Walau ada yang kata, jika itu syaratnya bermakna makin ramai wanita yang hidup bujang seumur hidup!
Alasan!

"Apalah awak, tak pandai masak siapa nak kahwin dengan awak!" Begitulah kata seorang lelaki pada teman sejawatnya seorang anak dara. Maka jawaplah si gadis ayu itu yang dia tidak sempat belajar memasak. Dari kecil tidak digalakkan keluarga sebaliknya di suruh menumpukan perhatian pada pelajaran saja, kemudian tinggal di asrama, maka peluang turun ke dapur membantu ibunya terhad. "Habis sekarang kenapa tidak belajar?" Tanya sang lelaki lagi. "Sedang belajarlah ni tetapi saya sibuk dengan kerjaya dan belajar agama, jadi belajar memasak tidak diutamakan," Begitu jawab si gadis yang membuatkan lelaki tadi menggeleng-geleng kepala. Baginya, dan bagi kebanyakkan kita juga, tidak sempurna seorang wanita jika tidak tahu memasak.

Lelaki meletakkan kebolehan wanita di dapur sebagai perkara utama. Tidak kiralah jika wanita itu berpelajaran atau berjawatan tinggi dan penyumbang utama kewangan dalam rumahtangganya. Namun kedudukan suami sebagai ketua masih kekal walau dia tidak mengambil inisiatif mempelajari ilmu menjadi imam, apatah lagi ilmu nak mendidik keluarga. Kalau tidak tahu memasak disuruh belajar kemudian perlu handal dan kalau boleh perlu boleh memasak untuk tiga pasukan bola. Begitulah standard yang telah ditetapkan.

Bolehkah wanita meletakkan undang-undang itu kepada lelaki juga? Kalau tidak pandai jadi imam, belajarlah. Mula-mula jadi imam kepada keluarga sendiri, sudah terror boleh pula mengimam satu taman perumahan!

Kalau dilihat orang kita, berapa kerat lelaki yang menjadikan sembahyang jemaah di rumah bersama anak isteri sebagai agenda utama?
"Tak confident la. Takut nanti kalau baca al-Fatihah tak betul, siapa susah?"
"Ilmu Tajwid kurang lagi la.."
"Bini aku lagi pandai tajwid. Segan la pulak."

"Aku yang rugged ni kau suruh nak jadi imam?? Buat lawak ke apa.."

Isu ini, serta isu-isu kronik lain berkenaan peranan suami, sepatutnya diberatkan sepertimana masyarakat memberatkan wanita perlu pandai memasak jika mahu bersuami. Lelaki juga harus boleh menjadi imam supaya kewibawaan mereka sebagai ketua keluarga tidak goyah atau menjadi mangsa ‘queen control’. Kalau tidak pandai, belajarlah sekarang. Jika wanita disuruh belajar, apa salahnya lelaki!

Heroes; Now and Then

Nope, i'm not writing abt the normal-human-discovering-superhuman-abilities-on-themselves American tv series.
It's abt the REAL movie heroes.

My mum raised this point to me once, long-long time ago....
She said,

"Why are all the "heroes" now, look so cute? Girlish? And soft? During my time, the heroes were vry tough, macho-looking and "huge"...."

And that made got me thinking....
She's correct....
Remember Rambo? Famous in the 80s...
How did he look like?

And how does the man that won almost all the girls' hearts look like?

My mum continued, saying that once upon a time, having scar makes the man looks more "macho".
Or at least, a "fiercer" face.
That was the kind of looks girls those days are drooled over.

The male artists now, have skin even smoother and fairer than most of the normal girls i met!
And their hair, so well groomed...no more those messy-looking male aura.

Where the lips are curved forward, as if to kiss the camera.
Or with one eye closed and another open.
Or just a sweet little "peace" sign on the forehead.
Even my brothers are influenced! They have pictures of themselves, posing like that!

Ok, fine... I purposedly find those macho-looking old heroes and cute-looking new heroes.
But, face the fact. The men artists now is cuter.
And it's not their fault. It's not even a wrong thing.

And I'm not saying that the male artists now are less-male than that of the past.
I'm just pointing out how much different the taste of the society between two generations.

20 yrs on the road, the next generation after mine, what kind of looks will win girls' hearts?

Humanitarian Aid Convoy Blocked by The Inhumane Egyptian Govt

11.00 pm - I was chatting in YM.
11.12 pm - I received an sms.

Salam. Egypt is blocking the humanitarian convoy to Palestine. People in convoy stranded in Jordan have gone on hungerstrike! Viva Palestina Malaysia will hand over a letter of appeal to d egyptian embassy in KL tomorrow. VPM appeal 4 people 2 turn up as a sign of support. I wanna go to the embassy the next day...!
I'll give up almost all plans i hv the nxt day just to be there...

After much "appeal" to my mum, she allowed me to go.

Great! I wont want to jeopardise myself (and my scholarship too) so that's nvr a problem.
I started drafting out my plans for the day. How, when and where shd i go.

Subuh - Woke up.

Get ready for the day.

12.00pm - Reached Jln Ampang Hilir. Where on earth is the embassy?
12.15 (i guess) - Oh, there are a lot of ppl here. This must be it. Let's join them.

Ppl talk to each other, discussing the Egyptian's ridiculous act of blocking the convoy.
What is their excuse this time?
They heartlessly closed the Rafah crossing one year ago, blocking all aids into Gaza when Israel was shooting phosphorus bombs into the strip.
They violently caught and killed Imam Hassan al Banna 60 yrs back because he fought the government, demanding to protect the Palestinians via Ikhwanul Muslimin.
And now, they are blocking the humanitarian convoy?

12.30 pm -
Ms Azra Banu said she will ring the bell. Everyone is to be ready (Pls, not to fight. Just to stop talking).
The gate is opened.
Some officers appeared.

Uhuh, i cant hear their discussion. But i'm sure it's abt the gathering and entry into the embassy compund.

Ok, over-the-gate discussion ended. Only 15 ppl can get in. Since i was really far from the gate, i wont make it to go in. Plus, i need to look after my sis (whom i drag frm school to come with me). I cant possibly leave her out there. So yeah, bye reps. Go into the embassy, and strike a deal with them! I'll be out here waiting for good news.

And the gate was closed.....

The ambassador gave a brief talk. I was glad i brought my camera.
I searched for my mp3, i wanna record what is he saying but after searching for it in my bag, i cant find the mp3! I really thought i put it into the bag before going out just now...
Ish.. Nvm.. Just listen properly.....

"We agreed to let the convoy pass"
"Yeay... Alhamdulillah..."
"But, there is some technical problem....."
"Huh?" Akmar thinks: Yeah, pls give us MORE excuses....

Then he started explaining "excuses".
He said the port that the convoy planned to use cannot accommodate such a huge convoy. And he said the gov has asked the convoy to change their route but they refused (says they).
And so, they will request that the convoy change their route to a bigger port.

Datuk Paduka Marina Mahathir was there. She questioned the ambassador. Seriously i was frustrated i didnt hear what was her Qs. I was so far behind...

I still think it's only their excuse.
The WHOLE WORLD knows that Egypt has NEVER been a helping hand to Gaza.
The country of the pyramids hv been neglecting its responsibilities towards fellow brothers and sisters in Gaza, co-operating with Israel.
They closed the Rafah tunnel, blocking the only (why must there be only???) possible way of communication.
Now, they block the convoy.
Who knows what will they do next?

The Heart Goes Out to Gaza

A year after the Israeli military offensive on Gaza, the people there are still in dire straits.

IT has been a year since the Dec 27 Israeli strike on Gaza. Just a day ago, Haifa, my Palestinian friend who lives in Gaza City, e-mailed me about the situation inside.

“GAZA! I don’t know where to start. People here are alive and not alive at the same time. The situation is really bad and getting worse every day. Nothing has changed since the war. People are still living in tents and the borders are still closed.

“We are still living under siege. Fatah and Hamas are still fighting. Is this enough or I should say more?

“The big ugly news these days is that the tunnels will be closed soon. Egypt is building a thick iron wall under the ground to close the tunnels and to prevent the Palestinians from building new tunnels.

“People are going crazy because of that. Prices are getting high and goods will run out soon,” wrote the 21-year-old.

Though painful to read, it was hardly surprising.

Little seems to have changed even with a new president in office in the United States – one who came to Cairo in June making huge promises such as wanting to push the Israeli and Palestinian peace process forward and help Gaza re-build, among others.

p/s: There was a day, when i was reading my novel, and my siblings were watching the tv.

I really cant remember the title of the show, but it's the 7-8pm show in TV1. The show was some sort of documentary. I was reading when i suddenly hear the sentence, "Israel's land ruled by Palestine........bla bla bla". And quickly looked up, to the tv. I squeaked, i thought i heard wrongly. Then i looked at my mum, and she looked back. She said, "Hmmph. They manipulated the facts...."

And i was very disappointed...

Israel's land? Ruled by Palestine?

Ever heard of anything more ridiculous than this?

I can marry Prince William if even this is considered true. (no worry, i'm not fond of Prince William...)

How could RTM let this kind of show pass?

Didnt they watch it first?

Did they really take everything in? Bcos it's National Geographic @ Discovery? (i'm not sure which is it)

Where is RTM censoring board?

How come there are a LOT of hassle whenever certain parts of movies are cut but a script like this is viewed on air without any publicity?

Remembering Gaza

Tanggal 27 Disember 2009 hingga 18 Januari 2010 menandakan ulang tahun pertama kezaliman rejim Zionis Israel terhadap rakyat Palestin di Gaza. Selama 22 hari, Israel membedil Gaza dengan bom, fosforus putih dan menggempurnya dengan jet pejuang F16, helikopter tempur, angkatan kapal laut , kereta kebal dan tentera bersenjata.

Seramai 1,400 jiwa terkorban , 5,000 orang tercedera, 20,000 kehilangan tempat tinggal dan 50,000 menjadi rakyat pelarian. Sekolah, universiti, hospital, bangunan awam, rumah dan kedai juga tidak terselamat daripada kekejaman tentera Zionis Israel.

Ulang tahun pembunuhan dan pencabulan hak asasi rakyat Gaza, Palestine akan dikenang oleh masyarakat madani seluruh dunia....

Viva Palestina Malaysia (dahulunya COMPLETE) menyahut seruan ini dan menyeru seluruh rakyat Malaysia untuk menzahirkan sokongan kita terhadap rakyat Palestin dengan melakukan perkara berikut :

December 27th - January 18th marks the first anniversary of the unspeakable brutality committed by the Zionist regime of Israel against the people of Gaza. For over 22 days, Israel dropped bombs, white phosphorous, used airplanes, helicopters, navy ships, tanks, bulldozers and heavily armed soldiers against a defenseless people.

1,400 dead, 5,000 injured, 20,000 homeless & 50,000 displaced. Schools, hospitals, universities, ministries, homes, shops - nothing was spared. The people of Gaza were simply bombed to death.

All around the world civil societies are marking the first anniversary of this cowardly and genocidal crime and Viva Palestina Malaysia (formerly COMPLETE) calls on all Malaysians to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people by doing the following:

1. Display the Palestinian scarf on 27th December everywhere you go. Drape it around yourself, tie it to your bag, display it in your car. Just let it be seen.

2. Boycott the following companies, supporters of the Zionist regime of Israel, from 27th December to 18th January - Nestle, McDonald's, Coke and Loreal. Do not buy any of their products!

Natrah

Last two nights (Wed 9^th Dec 09), I went to watch the theatre ‘Natrah’ in Istana Budaya, KL. Since my mum’s a fan of theatre, and I was somehow introduced to it since small, I fell in love with it too. Sadly, theatre is always very costly so, we will only go and watch if there is a concession price, like this one.

For anyone who didn’t know, Natrah is a girl born to a Dutch family. Her father, Adrianus Petrus Hertough was a sergeant serving his country and was staying in Indonesia. Her mother, Adelaine Hertough befriends a Malay lady, Che Aminah. During Japanese occupation, Sergeant Hertough was captured and Adelaine was in a hard situation, forcing her to give away her daughter, Maria Huberdina Hertough to Che Aminah. 4 yrs after that, Che Aminah then brought Maria back to Kemaman, Terengganu and raise her up as a Muslim girl, named Natrah. 8 years later when Malaya is still under British colonisation (in 1949), Natrah was seen by Mr Locke, an English officer in Malaya. Mr Locke knows that there is a Dutch couple trying to find their long lost daughter.

Mr Locke tricked Che Aminah to go to Singapore so that Natrah can be taken away by her parents. Being in Terengganu, Che Aminah was more protected. When they reached Singapore, a summon was issued and Natrah was taken away, being put in Girls Homecraft Centre, York Hill, Singapore; a Christian charity house. The case then went public because it was like a fight between two religions; the Hertoughs wanting Maria back and educating her as a Catholic while Che Aminah wanting Natrah, the girl she raised and to continue educating her as a Muslim.

The climax of this conflict was when the English court in Malaya declared Natrah as a non-muslim and her marriage to a Muslim man; Mansor Adabi was declared null. That leads to 'Natrah riot' in Singapore killing 18 ppl and injuring at least 170 other. Natrah was sent back to Holland and raised as a Catholic. Natrah died this year, at the age of 72.

Maya Karin acted as Natrah, Remy Ishak as Mansor Adabi, Umie Aida as Che Aminah and Samantha Schubert as Adelaine. At first I wasnt sure if Remy Ishak is Adam in Nur Kasih but when he appeared on stage, I was very happy. Hahaha... It's not Remy Ishak that I like, it's Adam in Nur Kasih that I like. Ok, let's stop talking abt Nur Kasih, better get going with Natrah. Oh ya, there was a part when Remy Ishak was supposed to do a monologue, but he suddenly became quiet, for abt a minute. I think he forgot the script. Poor him....

For me, the script wasnt strong enough, there are arguable flaws and inconsistencies. But I love Natrah's dialogue. For me, Che Aminah's reasons to take Natrah back from the charity home wasn't logic. She said she's worried with Natrah's Islamic routine; whether she prays, whether she fasts etc etc. But for me, a mother whose daughter (eventhough an adopted one) is being kept in a place she's not allowed to visit her in, will be more concerned of the daughter's well being; whether she eats, whether she's treated nicely or whether she's crying etc etc than her prayers (uh, why do i sound weird saying this?). Plus, Natrah was only 13 at that time. In reality, I'm pretty sure that Che Aminah was also concerned of Natrah's well being apart from her prayers but the theatre did not raise that point at all. It was made as if Natrah's prayers were the only thing Che Aminah cared abt. Which was of course, not good enough.

Natrah married Mansor Adabi (Adam, yeay!) after the court decided to release Natrah from the charity home as the summon was retracted (ok, i dont really know what term i shd use here, 'cancelled' perhaps?). Logically, when Natrah is married to a local, her parents and the court could not and should not separate her from her husband and take her away. Natrah is of marrying age at that time, according to Islamic law. But according to civil law, she was still an underage thus her marriage was nullified! How dare the colonists nullify a marriage done under an Islamic law! How dare the colonists challenge the Islamic law, disrespecting it, announcing Natrah as a non-muslim, separate her from her husband and send her back to Holland. This was a case showing clearly how the colonists think the locals were stupid and weak. And that was why 'Natrah riot' happened in Singapore.

After being separated, Mansor Adabi wrote letters to Natrah without getting any reply. At last, Natrah asked Mansor Adabi not to contact her again, and broke Mansor Adabi's heart. He married another lady, working as a teacher and a lawyer, leading a wealthy life while Natrah suffered in Holland, marrying twice and migrating to the U.S, working as a cleaner. Natrah did ask to come back to Mansor Adabi but that was a different story (which i dont know, dont ask me abt it).

Natrah's monolog was heart-breaking. She cried for attention because nobody was listening to her, nobody asked what she wanted in life, how she wanted to live her life. Everybody was busy in the struggle, fighting for her and their religion. Two mothers fighting for a daughter, two community fighting for a girl, and two parties fighting for dignity. The Dutch can never bear the thought that a girl of their own flesh and blood being raised by a Malay lady; a supposedly weak and colonised nation eventhough that girls is married! It was a matter of ego and dignity to them. It was a story of struggle, of patience, of dignity and of love and romance (i'm pretty sure the love and romance was put in to make the play more interesting).

There was a scene when Aminah and her friend Mak Wok and Mak Wok's son; Mansor Adabi visited Natrah in the charity home in Singapore. At that time, Mansor Adabi wasnt married to Natrah yet. Planned marriage was a culture at that time, and so Malaysians watching the play will surely know that the two ladies planned to marry the two youths off. So, during the meeting, Mak Wok and Che Aminah teased the two of them. From the point of view of someone who didnt know the culture at that time, it will look so very weird that two mothers are teasing their own child in their very first meeting. Hence, i think this scene wasnt properly done. (Yea right Akmar, u urself cannot do it, complaint abt others plk =P)

However, all in all i think this theatre is worth the time and money. It is full of emotions and spirit. Compared to 'Tun Razak The Musical' which i watched few months back, i think 'Natrah' is still ok. Both plays featured the struggle Malaya went thru during the colonisation period. But 'Natrah' was more to religion than 'Tun Razak The Musical'. I'll give 'Natrah' a 7 out of 10. =)

Bits of Experience; In Search of A Netbook =)

Brands available: Toshiba, Fujitsu, Lenovo, MSI, Asus, Acer, HP, Sony, Dell

1) Lenovo does not recommend Windows 7 with Intel Atom.

2) Fujitsu, Toshiba and Dell recommend Win 7 with a netbook.

3) Try to ask all the salesman in Low Yat or PC fair if Win 7 is compatible with a netbook. U'll get 1001 answers. Some say "yes, definitely" or "no, never" or "yes, but vry slow" or "no, i dont recommend that". So far i think it's ok.

4) Windows 7 Starter is sufficient. Other edition available: Win 7 Home Basic, Win 7 Home Premium, win 7 Professional. Those whose netbook come with XP OS will say Win 7 Starter is very very basic, cant do anything with it. So they'll ask u to maintain XP. Those with Win 7 Starter netbook will say Win7 is enough. Those who do nt have their own principle will say Win 7 Starter is too basic because it's "starter".

5) Acer and HP and maybe Dell (someone told me) are the most unreliable brands. Well, i dont know the truth, read here. Toshiba is reliable, so is Asus. Fujitsu is good too.

6) Toshiba netbook come with a DDRIII RAM so, dont dream of using the extra DDRII u hv at home (i'm telling this to myself).

7) Opt for a bigger screen netbook. Sometimes the netbook is big but the screen is small.

8) Bring translator along. The salesmen will just love to speak in their own language thinking we dont understand what they're saying. Haha... They chose the wrong customer at the wrong time. Sorry...! =)

9) Sony is expensive, but stylo. =P

10) Don't jump into any decision in buying a netbook or notebook or anything as a matter of fact. Survey the price first. And their free gifts. =)

It changes again

Like i predicted, the decision to limit SPM subjects taken by stdnts to 10 will be changed in a year's time. And it did, luckily.

But i dont really understand how it works this time. Because the news (The Star, Sat Dec 5 09) stated that stdnts are allowed to take Chinese or Tamil literature. So, what abt those science stream stdnts who intend to take Accountings or Economy etc?
Are they allowed to do so?

IMHO, i think stdnts shd be permitted to take extra subjects because they are solely responsible for the # of subjects they took (with the exception of pressure from lunatic parents). I cant find the news excerpt during the days when the govt decided to limit the # of SPM subjects so i cant verify the reason behind the decision. But if i am not mistaken, it was because too many stdnts are trying to break records going up to 20 subjects. But still, out of the more than 400 000 (it is 465, 853 stdnts for 2009) stdnts taking SPM, there will always be less than 15 stdnts taking up tp 16, 17 subjects. And that is only like 0.0000375% of the total SPM stdnts. Why should the whole population of SPM stdnts being limited from taking extra subjects?

And if the stdnts themselves are capable of studying all the 30 sbjects (pls, this is a hyperbola for those who are too straight), then they shd be given all the support they need. Even if there shd be any limititation, for any reason beyond my knowledge and thinking (which i shall think is shallow), then a limit 0f 15 should be ok. 10 is just too little! And i'm talking based on experience. A pure science stream stdnt will have a minimum of 10 subjects. Say the stdnt is studying in a chinese school, then the stdnt must take chinese language. And say the stdnt will also want to take Accounting or Economy, for the sake of knowledge (don't argue, accounting @ economy @ money management is a crucial skill to live) then the # of SPM subjects will be AT LEAST 12. With the limitation, the stdnt will have to sacrifice 2 subjects. Not unfair enough?

Limiting the # to only 10 is an example of limiting the potential of a bright stdnt. And Malaysia is supposed to grow with that? It was the same with PTS (Penilaian Tahap Satu) where Standard 3 students are promoted to Standard 5 (without going thru Std 4) if the stdnt passed PTS exam. For me, it was a very good exam. Std 4 syllabus isn't difficult to catch up. And parents saved one whole year of school fees, pocket money, time and energy plus school uniform. And the stdnt also save a year. I wasnt sure why the exam was cancelled but ppl told me it was bcos some of the stdnts who were promoted cant make it. They cant cope with the promotion. But, how was the proportion of stdnts who can cope to stdnts who cant cope? Just bcos there are some stdnts who cant cope, that privilege should not be taken away from all students. I am sure the exam was still on in the year 1999 and 2000 but i am not sure what was the last year for the exam.

p/s: I am talking frm my point of view. And i accept any comment (if there is). =)
Btw, i'm also thinking of my bro's future. If he's not allowed to take more than 10 subjects...he will hv to sacrifice some of the SPM subjects his taking now. =(

Two Little Angels

Since the commencement of the school holiday, my uncle put his two sons in my hse.
And these two 2 and 4 yr olds really turned my hse upside down but won our hearts at the same time.

I cant believe a boy can be so troublesome at one time but yet so lovable.

They can't still talk properly and i am still adapting to their language.
Our conversations:

1. "Heyy....Jgn mkn betul2!! Mkn tipu2 je....!!"
This was my dialogue when the 4 yr old took my car dashboard mat, and coook it like a roti canai, and serve me some. And he really tried to eat it despite using his bro's slippers as the spatula.

2. "Noooo!!! Don't play with thaaaatt.....!!"
This is also mine when the 2 yr old took a pair of chopsticks and turn them into zorro swords.

3. "Pegi kencing..pegi kencing...." (Me)
"Sy x cing..x cing...." (The 4 yr old)
This is heard every 2,3 hrs everyday. We are training the 4 yr old toilet manners. He's still wearing diapers at 4 yrs old! And if i forgot to remind him to go to the toilet....... everyone knows what happen. There was once he said "Sy nk cing, sy nk cing" in the car and my heart leapt. I drove even faster so that we reach home fast...

4. "Sape buat ni?" (My family or me, pointing to any wound on the 4 yr old.)
"Adik....." (The 4 yr old answered.)
Yes, that's the truth. The smaller one will bully the bigger one. And the bigger one will just run and run frm his younger bro but when he is angry........ok, let's not make him angry. Separate them when the 2 yr old started hitting the 4 yr old.

This video was recorded when the two kids were playing with each other. The smaller sized one is 2 yrs old while the bigger one is 4. Notice who is actually bullying who...

5. "Xde ke org nk main dgn bdk2 ni?" (Me in desperation when the two kids started messing up
with my laptop and room. Usually my two younger bros will be playing ultraman, naruto, spiderman, superman or juz any man with them)

And the list goes on.....

No wonder my mum said our hse was empty, without any decorations when me and my siblings were small. My mum cant even have a vase in the hse. It'll get destroyed in no time.
I dropped the television once, and it dropped right in front of my brother. But the tv survived! Until now, 15 yr old tv...

My mum cant even have picture frames arranged nicely on shelves, cute wall decorations, or nicely put antiques and elegant looking teapot set bcos me and my siblings will successfully destroy them. And now, my youngest brother is 13 yrs old, my mum has started decorating the hse.

Small miniature DIY bicycle on the shelve, photo frames on dressing table, flower vases (which i broke one last yr), and glasswares. My siblings collection of dvds and PS2 games arranged nicely in their respective folders near the TV cabinet. They are all gone now.

The bicycle lost its handle, photo frames broken, vases still there (bcos they are made of rattan, i broke the porcelain one), and DVDs hidden in my drawer. And my bros specs are bent.

The carpet in the main hall is always folded, never straightened and cushions upside down.
Fuh, how come i made these two boys sound more like little devils than little angels?

They are still angels, bcos they are kids. No matter what they do, they are innocent.

I asked the 4 yr old,
"Syg ayah x?"
"Syg....."
"Syg mummy x?"
"Syg...."
"Lg syg sape?"
"Sy syg kakak...."

And i melt...
Ok kid, do what u like.
Piss me off, make me angry, anything...as long as u say u love me... Hahahaha...

They were playing with my bro's roller blades..

But at times, i'm sad.
Here, my cousins and almost all kids in Malaysia get all the love they needed.
But what abt those in Palestine?
Life is totally the opposite for them.
Seeing their own parents being killed in front of them, blood shed almost everywhere.
And friends going out, without ever coming back...
They don't hv the childhood life the philosophers are boasting abt when America, Israel and their counterparts "peacefully" forcefully take from them when the whole world turning their blind eyes to the atrocity..
Wake up o people!
The children of Palestine need you!
Even my 2 yr old cousin will cry so hard everytime his father left them for work, (the 4 yr old being more understandind and didnt cry), imagine a Palestine kid losing their family members. Unbearable for me...!

Coming back to my two little angels, they look so sweet and cute when they were sleeping!
Haha.. Love them so much... But pls, adik2.. dont disturb my laptop, i love that laptop too...!! And it cost me a fortune buying it last time...

Training Courses in Life

1. I believe everything that happened to us, is of reasons and logic. Whatever they are, they are the best for us, for now or for the future.

2. I don't believe there shd be any regrets in life. Only embarassments and shamefullness and sad feeling of the bad things we did in the past shd be there and also a promise not to do it again in the future.
But my definition of regret is to sulk over things we did in the past and feel sad abt it but did not go on with life. Merely sulking. (Imagine those men in movies being dumped by their lover in movies and they regretted treating @ trusting the girl and ended up having long thick beards due to lack in motivation to shave for months) =P

3. We are trained in every possible way in everything we did. A simple conversation with someone simple might be just the thing saving us in the future.
Ok, this is funny. I hv an example:

Last Sunday, i met my aunt. And she told me that my uncle laughed at her bcos she doesnt know how to switch his new VAIO laptop on. Why? Because the switch is at the side, not at the center of the laptop, like most other laptops. It was a totally simple conversation btw me and aunt, bcos we had nothing else to talk abt. Guess what? The vry nxt day, my bestfriend and her friend tried tricking me, asking me to switch a laptop on. And the "on" button isn't at the centre. HAHAHAHAHA..... Just if i didnt have the conversation with my aunt the day before, i wont be able to switch the laptop on as fast as i did that day. =)

4. Whatever i say now is what i think now. Ask me these very same things 5 yrs more, and i might or might not give the same statements.
5 yrs before this i told my mum i do not want to drive. Even after i start working (at that time i still has so many career ambitions, didnt know which to choose) no matter what profession it is, i wanted to take public transports. Only public transports. Reason? I'm scared of road traffic accidents. Been in RTAs so many times with my mums that i do not want to be in it especially when i'm the driver. 5 yrs on the road, i'm driving evryday to campus and an official family driver fetching and sending siblings to school, family members to supermarket etc etc.

Blinded by the media

The Malaysian media is totally dependent on the so-called wire services (Reuters, AP, AFP, etc) for foreign news. As a result there has been no report on the Israeli desecration of the al-Aqsa mosque and the beating up of Palestinian Muslims who wanted to pray there.

I don't think the Malaysian media is deliberately blacking out news which are not in favour of Israel but if they depend solely on the wire services they would always be unfair to the victims of Israeli brutalities

We read very little about the blockade of Gaza and the sufferings of the people there.

What Israel is doing is illegal, but such is the control that Israel exercises on the international media that it can actually openly commit genocide and nothing would happen to it.

These are the people whom we had sympathised with because the Nazis of Germany tried to wipe out.

Now they are the ones doing the very thing they, or their forebears had suffered from in the past.

Qualified First Year Student =)

Assalammualaikum.

I've finished my first year of medical course!!! (ok, sounds lame... i know it)
But man, i do need to be proud of it don't i?
There are lots of things that happened during this 2nd semester of mine, history seems to keep repeating itself, me with my carefree lifestyle and almost panicking near the exam due to lack of revision, and not to forget, happiness and sorrows as a student.

One of the exam Qs was on "pass flatus". Honestly i hv no idea what flatus is. Asked my nurse aunt, and she laughed like mad. Pass flatus means fart-lah! Flatulence --> flatus...
Uhuhu.. And i'm pretty sure i gave the wrong answer for that Q.

Pathology. I suck at it. I bet Dr Sri laughed all the way through marking my paper. I put "neutrophils infiltration" in almost all microscopic photographs.

During the result taking day (Friday, 20th Nov 09), all my batchmates are at their palest condition. We were queueing up anxiously to get our results. It was a torture to queue up so long and it was another BIG challenge to tear the envelope and open the result statement.
I saw friends screamed in joy. Some of them jumped in happiness, some laughed their hearts out, some with pendant out of shirt collar signalling he had just kissed the pendant as a symbol of gratitude, appreciation and thankfulness and some hugging each other.

Seeing more and more students getting good results, leaving me and those still queuing up fidgeting and tachycardia. Hearts beat faster, palms getting cold and sweating, lips smiling to friends from far, whispering each other good luck, and faces as pale as chinese opera actresses.

And praise to Almighty God, i passed my End of Semester 2 exam.
I shd now think of my sem 3, and i bet some of my friends started mugging up sem 3 syllabus.
I'm determined to study harded and smarter next sem, I hope I can score better, or JPA won't let me go to the country of my choice. I gotta perform in all my 5 sems to win JPA's heart (or money).

Boycott Israel COMPLETE Family and Friends Day

Assalammualaikum.

I was supposed to write this one week before, as it was held on Saturday, Nov 14th 2009.
But i have been sleeping endlessly the past one week and i decided to write abt it only now.

COMPLETE or now known as VIVA Palestina Malaysia organised a Friends and Family Day in Sunway Pyramid, KL.

The events are bowling and ice skating. Participants will wear the boycott Israel t-shirts and participate in either bowling or ice skating for FREE!!!

7 girls including me (Akmar, Diana, Farahin, Fathin Najib, Atieqa, Nabihah, Mizah) and 3 boys (Aizuddin, Syahil and Lokman) participated from IMU. We reached Sunway at approximately 11am. After breakfast and lunch (yes, both in Sunway) we proceeded to the bowling arena for registration and t-shirt collection. Each t-shirt cost only RM10 (student price).

After registration, cloth changing, we went for Zuhur prayers and then only to the skating rink.

We reached the rink around 1.30pm, after all the hassle in wearing the skating shoes and changing the size again and again, we are ready to skate!

But only to discover that the rink is going to be closed, because they need to "clean" it first. After waiting another 20mins, we then managed to go into the rink. The last time i skate was when i was 14 (i think), which was 5 yrs back! Ad thank God i still got the hang of it. When we first arrive at the rink, there weren't many COMPLETE @ VIVA Palestina skaters yet but as time passes, more and more COMPLETE skaters join the crowd. At one point, i think there were more than 50 of us! And i was very proud and happy. We certainly made an appearance, the public acknowledged us, observed the tshirts and some ask Qs.

There was one Chinese auntie who asked me where am I from. And I answered from COMPLETE, and I talked a bit abt the oppression on the Palestinians. I'm not sure whether the aunt got what i said as the surrounding was SO loud. At last the aunt asked me (this was at the entrance to the skate rink where we're supposed to scan our tickets for entry), "Mau lawan ka kt dlm tu?" or literally means "Are you going to fight in there?"
I was dumbstrucked for a while. Err...

"Oh no! We're not picking up any fight here, we come in peace!" That's the first thing crossed my mind, given the fact that my last COMPLETE walkaround alerted the security and we were literally chased out of Carrefour in MidValley fearing that we might terrorise (yea right, our cameras can shoot a bullet up to 200m without missing the target and we are all trained to become sharp shooter using our laser eyes and we have jedi forces, if that's what the Carrefour ppl are scared of)

Then i realised, the aunt thought we're in a competition, an ice skating competition, and we are all wearing our "uniforms". And i laughed at my own foolishness and unnecessary fear. So i smiled and told the aunt that we are not in any competition.

We skate for approx 2 hrs, my legs were aching by then but it was worth it.
Some ppl asked where can they get the tshirts and i told them we got it from the bowling arena but since once we go out of the rink, we can't enter back, they do not want to go to get the tshirts. Hence i gave them the url for COMPLETE website and asked them to check for any
event updates there. And i hope they really do.

COMPLETE skaters in the rink are not only of students and youngsters but also family with small little children. And man, they really look cute in those tiny little boycott tshirts!!

After skating, all 10 of us separated into 3 groups and walked our own way. After a session of camwhoring with Diana, both of us went for Asar prayers and walked around Sunway. Not exactly around, only some parts of it. My legs can't bear the ache anymore, i was even scared i might get crammed legs (muscle fatigue) while driving! Guess what, Diana went crammed in the middle of the rink, and i had to literally drag her out of the rink (oops, sorry Diana! Haha..)

As for bad experiences, no i did not experience any this time. Apart from the awkwardness when me and Diana were walking and there was a Coca Cola booth, they were giving free drinks away. And we bravely walked pass thru them, twice (we lost our direction actually)! At first they offered to give us the drinks, but we rejected. And it was like seeing a cat diplomating with a dog (just a stupid example to say that there are two girls wearing a tshirt with a very big Boycott Coca Cola logo in the circle of workers wearing red Coca Cola tshirts with BIG Coca Cola logo at the booth).

Come to think of it again, it's ok to DRINK Coca Cola, but it's certainly not ok to BUY Coca Cola. The purpose of boycotting is because we do not want to spend money on companies which are obviously channelling fund to the occupation of Palestine. But if the drink are given for free, we are not actually contributing any money, do we? Except for us contributing as an indirect ads for them. But since i am never a fan of carbonated drinks, even if Coke is not contributing to the atrocity, I'll not drink it anyway.

One of the boys from IMU was actually stopped by a Loreal promoter. The promoter demanded for the reasons why is Loreal being boycotted and he wasnt satisfied and was unhappy that this friend of mine is wearing a huge boycott Loreal logo on his tshirt.
I wasnt there thus i did not know how the argument went abt, i heard this from a third party.

Some other bad experience (which has got nothing to do with the tshirts):

1. I forgot which level did i park my car. Even Farahin (from the other car) forgot! We panicked for a while and luckily we managed to find our respective car, fast.

2. Me and Diana got stucked in a lift while searching for my car. The lift door won't open and i panicked. Getting stucked in the lift is one of the thing i want the last in life. I pressed the bell button so hard as if my life depended on it. Luckily it wasnt for long. Nobody came to our rescue, haha.. The lift functioned back after a while.

3. I got lost while driving back. Paid a lot of toll. But fortunately i wasn't caught in any jam. And was lucky too as my Touch n Go is sponsored by my mum. =) I reached home at 740pm despite the fact that i went out of Sunway at almost 7 and i sent Diana to Sri Petaling LRT station.

Any other bad experience? Not anymore that i can think of for now. Anyone want to add some more experience? You're more than welcomed! =)

16 Random Stuff Abt Me

1. I hate the Zionists for oppressing the Palestinians, for devoiding them of their houses and properties and family members, for killing them inhumanly but still be able to stand straight at their thrones, justifying their atrocity and still be acknowledged by some parts of the world.

2. I love to sleep in my parents' room because that's the only room with air-conditioner in my hse. But i love to wrap the comforter around myself everytime I'm in an air-conditioned room. And that defeats the whole purpose of the air-conditioner.

3. I really hope there is a "Ctrl+F" or "index" function in my brain so that i can easily retrieve all the knowledge i read and stored somewhere in my brain. When too many facts are shoved into my brain, I tend to jumble them all up.

4. Sometimes i prefer to ignore than to show that i know when some topics are being discussed. Whatever one knows, reflects what one hv been exposed to. And what one was exposed to, reflects the personality of that person. Most ppl thought i'm ignorant, so what?

5. I love to assume "the little kid" role whenever i got the opportunity. It's less tensing as no one is supposed to expect much from a little kid. A little kid is supposed to be taken care of, live carefree and happy always.

6. I believe there is no such thing as "pure evil". No one is pure evil (I'm crossing my fingers when it comes to Ariel Sharon or Hitler though, I dont know them). But I believe EVERYONE has their own soft part. One may be very evil in business, in social life etc but he may be very loving to his family or one may be unacceptably evil in dealing with nemesis but loves cat so much. There is NO PURE EVIL in this WORLD.

7. I strongly OPPOSE gays and lesbians relationships. They are GROSS.

8. Everytime i lose grip or lose control of myself or my life or undergoing emotional instability, i'll sleep. I'll sleep like i never sleep before. If some ppl resort to alcohol to forget their problem, then sleep is my drug and alcohol. But the waking up is always the hardest part. As suddenly the reason i slept crashes into my mind again, and i'll feel like sleeping again.

9. I will first love a song for its tune and rythm. And when i get to know the lyrics, if they are good i'll love the song more. But if it's not good or hurts me too much, i wont want to listen to the song again. Essentially, i reject bad lyrics with good melody but accept good lyrics with bad melody. I love songs for their lyrics.

10. I am a fast driver, thanks to my mum, a Penang driver. I think my INTEC hsemates can't agree less, Diana will too.

11. I have high treshold value, I just do.

I've been sleeping endlessly this past 10 days.

5 Things I Wanna Say On The Eve of My Exam

1. I don't know how ready am I for the exam tomorrow, there is less than 12 hrs left. And this exam is one of the killer exams in IMU. The second killer exam is during Sem5, to ensure a place in the clinical school.

2. I just want to get this over with, fast. I don't want more time because I don't think there's anything much left to be done.

3. I haven't study Bacterial Genetics, i forgot transformation, transposon, conjugation etc etc.

4. Dr. JPJ said students need to know at least 50% of what they were taught in order to pass this exam. I'm sure i know at least 50% of what I was taught. But what if the questions are on the other 50% which I don't know? That means students shd at least know 50% of WHAT ARE TO BE ASKED, NOT WHAT THAT WE WERE TAUGHT.

5. I want to get up tomorrow, feeling confident and happy and strong and smart, so that I can answer the exam with open heart. Amin...

5 Things I Wanna Do After My Exam

This is the fun part.

1. I want to read as much novels as I can. I spent more than RM100 for books during MPH sales in IMU last 2 weeks and I can't wait to read those books. I might even be going to IMU library and borrow novels, and maybe spend some time in the library reading novels, as a revenge. I've been staying in the lib for hours, gluing my eyes on the notes, after exam will be the time to read novels!

2. I want to go jalan-jalan. I'm just so tired of being confined to my daily activity (Uni-House-Uni-House) for the last few weeks. I wanna go Low Yat, I wanna go Sunway (this Sat!!), I wanna go OU, I wanna go Mines.. (greedy)

3. I want to spend time surfing the net, reading latest news, getting new stories, updating myself with the world.

4. I want to watch House Season 6!

5. I want to relax, sleep, eat and play guilt-less-ly...

Yeay!!!

What I Want To Do Next? Sleep! (but only after i go find what bacterial genetics mean, read HIV and Immunodeficiency & arrange my notes for tomorrow etc etc) Duh!

2 days before the exam

Assalammualaikum.

2days left.

1. So many things to remember, so little time left.
But please, i dont want more time, i just want it to be over.
I feel guilty even while reading newspaper, while having my meals, while bathing, while driving, while doing ANYTHING but studying.

2. Today is the second time i went to IMU library on a Saturday, to study. And it was beneficial, luckily. I didnt get to sit at my usual place today (the disadvantage of coming late) but that was still ok. Unfortunately, i chose the table directly in front of the air-conditioner. I was literally shivering the whole day, forgot to bring my jacket only a shawl to wrap myself up. Must remember to bring jacket next week!

3. I purposedly waited until the librarian chase me out of the library at 8pm. Haha.. On weekdays, the library closes at 10pm and it's kinda difficult for me to stay until 10, too late to drive back. But since it closes at 8pm on Saturdays, i decided to stay until they ask me to go out. Haha... Yes! I did it. =P

4. As i drove out of IMU basement parking, i was shocked. Shocked to see MANY MANY cars in front of imu. Beautiful cars, not the ugly ones. I wondered, what are all these cars doing here? There was cars at every corner of the road. Then i remembered, "Piala Liga Malaysia (if i got the name of the league correct) is today!! It's Negeri Sembilan vs Kelantan! " And i didnt know that the match is held in Bukit Jalil. There were traffic policemen everywhere, and man, the amount of cars.... Ppl parked very very far away from the stadium! I literally drove with my mouth opened, seeing the amount of cars out there, parked while the stadium was very bright. The first time i saw it like that. Which state do i support? I don't know. Kelantan maybe? Haha... N.9 is ok too, my best friend's from there.

5. I need to stop writing now, and get back to my embryology. Lots of things to memorise!

The List is Getting Longer

2 weeks left for my End of Semester 2 exam @ the clearing exam.

After 2 weeks, i'll be as free as a bird, though there are few bad things gonna happen during this hols and i prefer not to talk abt it.
And as usual, i started writing my to-do-list for this hols.
And the list IS getting longer.
I might disclose some of it later, after my exam.
Oh my...
Life is so tempting.

A Little Help In Life

Assalammualaikum.

As i was driving back home from IMU just now (it was around 7.40pm), i noticed a small Perodua Kancil, a blue one. Somehow this Kancil caught my attention, because of the colour, and the style of driving. Then i noticed that the car did not switch the lights on, and it's already dark. I thought of giving the driver a beam of my highlight so that he/she will be aware of it. But decided not to because am afraid it might make him/her angry as in a heavy traffic like where we were in, small road congested with cars and everybody trying to get home as fast as they could, a simple highlight like that will be easily misinterpreted.

The Kancil then zoomed to the front, leaving me behind (i mentioned the unique way of driving before).
Before long, there was a fly-over and i can't see the Kancil anymore.
Then, the queue of cars stopped.
And the cars in front me start giving right signal and took the right part of the one lane road.
I then see the problem, which blocked the whole row of cars (including mine) on the fly-over.

The blue Kancil broke down right in the middle of the road, trying to "climb" the fly-over.
And as i passed by the car, i noticed that the driver is a girl.
Duh! Pity her!
I can't imagine myself in her shoes, i dont want to.
I had enough bad experience with cars, and both did not involve rows of car behind me, it will just make my adrenaline pump in a higher concentration.

To recall, last two Fridays, my car "broke down" in IMU hill carpark.
It was 8.40pm and i cant seem to start my car.
I sent an SOS call to my dad and he rushed to my aid, leaving his work from KL.
And i reached home abt 10+ that night.
One month before, my car tyre (or wheel?) burst.
And i sent an SOS to my dad, he came in 15mins time with my 2 brothers to change the tyre for me.
So yes, i sent two SOS-es and neither was disappointed.
I am so glad that I have my dad around, willing to come to my aid anytime i need him.

And that made me realise, we can't live alone in this world.
We need family, we need companions, we need friends, and we need neighbours.
Not to say that without all these we'll die, cos even if u have the whole world knows u (thinking of Obama and Beyonce), u'll still die.
But life will just be imperfect if these important aspects of life are missing.

Over breakfast the next morning after my car "broke down", my dad taught me how to jump start a car.
And my mum snapped him, forbidding him to teach me how to jumpstart a car.
My mum said "She might just get the car burnt or make the condition worse!"
And my dad's counter argument was "She shd know what to do in case of an emergency again! At least she'll not be helpless"
Whoever won that argument, not important. =P
But i know that same colour of the wire shd go to same colour of the port, i think.
Well, isn't that basic electronic (or electricity) we learnt in Kemahiran Hidup (Living Skills) subject in Form 3?

Anyway, as i drove pass the girl in blue Kancil just now, i really hoped she'll get someone to come to her aid. Anyone, that is trustable.

A Wanted Child

Assalammualaikum wrt wbt.

I am now in IMU library, cracking my brain to absorb all the Pathology facts i should be memorising.
And i decided to write something to divert my attention for a while. Well, can't be reading textbooks all the time right?

Last Monday, on Oct 12th, Prof Yadav gave a lecture on Maternal Health.
And one of the facts he gave was 40% of the births in the world are unwanted or mistimed.
That literally means, out of 10 of my readers, 4 are unwanted in this world.
Sad, isn't it?
So automatically (i think all my batchmates are thinking the same), i wondered if my birth was wanted.
Was my birth mistimed?
Did my parents planned to get me?
But i decided not to ask them.
Part of it because i'm scared of the answer (what if i wasn't wanted???)
And part of it because i knew even if i wasnt planned, my parents do not reject me.
They still accept me, as a gift from God.
So, there is no point of me asking.

But last night, i went to my parents and told them,

"Do u know that 40% of the births in this world are not wanted or mistimed?"

And they agreed.
My father said some of his friends even complained to him when their wives get pregnant, blaming the wife for the pregnancy.
And for me that is stupid.
As if they do not contribute to the pregnancy.
As if the wife went for a walk in the park, or went shopping in a market, and come back pregnant.
They should never complain that their wives are pregnant!

Ok ok, back to my story.
While discussing the topic, my parents assured me that i WASN'T UNWANTED.
My mum wanted me desperately at that time.
She had miscarriageS before me and so she even went to the extent of getting a jab( i don't know what jab) to prevent me from slipping off her uterus at that time.
I had no idea i was that wanted.
Haha...

Well, it cherished my day.

LEADERS of the rich nations have turned their fire on Iran, quite rightly. Last week came news

that the Islamic Republic had been building a secret uranium enrichment plant near Qom. Then the junta fired test missiles. Unlike Iraq under Saddam, there are, in Iran, nuclear developments

that could lead to weapons of mass destruction. It is not an immediate but a future danger, say credible intelligence experts and indeed Barack Obama himself.

Suddenly the president has got uncharacteristically belligerent, instructing Iran to open up all its nuclear facilities for inspection if it wants to avoid “a path that is going to lead us to confrontation”. In May, Obama stood in Washington with the hawkish Benjamin Netanyahu, who we were told was there to seek assurances that there would be no shift from the conventional US position of total and unconditional support for Israel’s policies right or wrong, known and clandestine.

The US, China, Britain, France, Russia and Germany meet in Geneva tomorrow and, by that time, Iran will be expected to submit to international scrutiny. As a supporter of the now crushed and broken reformers in Iran, I back the ultimatum to the fanatic and bellicose Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. But what about that camel in the room? The one we all see but can’t point out? What about the only power in the Middle East, also fanatic and aggressive, which has a stockpile of weapons enough to obliterate the region? Listen people, we need to talk about Israel. And soon. Like now.

I have been in contact with a young Iranian woman who wore a green scarf and lipstick on the streets of Teheran, whose uncle is being tortured in prison there for demonstrating against the results of the election. Somehow she escaped from the country and is in Britain briefl y before going on to the US to make a new life. Let us call her M.

Nobody could hate Ahmadinejad more than M; she hates the whole regime, the treacherous leaders who betrayed the people. When she speaks she often gets asthmatic. But yet, but yet, she finds her passions rising for her country this week because of fears of military strikes by Israel and the manifestly unfair way that Israel is indulged. “I will go back if they attack my country, even if they put me to jail,” M says. “That is my duty. Israel is the enemy of peace and America gives them money to get more arms. I don’t want Iran to have these terrible weapons, but Israel must also be stopped.”

The big powers are moving tentatively towards global de-nuclearisation, taking small but significant steps to show they do want everyone to pitch in. Obama’s decision to shelve the European defence missile programme shows serious intent, so too Gordon Brown’s announcement that Britain would cut down from four to three its Trident missile-carrying submarines. There was a moment this spring, albeit fleeting, when Rose Gottemoeller, an assistant secretary of state and Washington’s chief nuclear arms negotiator, asked Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, thus breaking the 40-year-old silence and US complicity in its accumulated, un-inspected arsenal. Her reasonable appeal provoked apoplexy in a nation that assumes special, indeed exceptional, treatment.

In the 1960s, Israel successfully hid its weapons from US inspectors. In 1986, Israeli nuclear technical assistant Mordechai Vanunu revealed information about the concealed stockpiles and has been punished ever since. Hubristic Israel no longer cares to deny that it has hundreds of atom and hydrogen bombs and devastating biological “tools”. Netanyahu has been warning he will destroy the Iranian sites if his country feels the danger is real. Now he has just what he wanted, another crisis in the Middle East, to keep up the idea of plucky, vulnerable, endangered little Israel.

Alarmingly, even the liberal Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz is on his side. History has made too many Israelis fear all humanity in perpetuity and that fear brings out the worst in that nation. It has predictably rejected the long, sober, unbiased UN report on the last assault on Gaza chaired by Richard Goldstone. He accused Hamas of crimes against Jewish civilians and charged Israel with grave crimes, the breaking of the Geneva convention, punishing and terrorising unarmed civilians.

I have some images of these victims sent to me by a Jewish pro-Palestinian activist. Children turned to ash, blistered mothers weeping, and on and on. There still is no respite for the hungry and dying in Gaza. If Israel can mete out such treatment and not be called to account, just think what the state feels entitled to do to Iran.

The Israeli human rights activist Gideon Spiro bravely asks that his country be subject to the same rules as Iran and all others in the Middle East: “Rein in Israel, compel it to accept a regime of nuclear disarmament and oblige it to open all nuclear, biological and chemical facilities and missile sites to international inspection.” The US has leverage because it maintains and funds Israel. If Obama shies away from this, there can be no moral justification to go for Iran or North Korea or any other rogue state. And the leader whose election and dreams gave hope to millions thereby hastens the end of the world. – The Independent

Akmar says:

IMU has a corner for free copies of The Sun newspaper. And everyday i'll take a copy for myself. What i have been observing so far is The Sun looks like a pro-Israel newspaper. Sorry to say that, but that's my opinion. It's up to the readers whether or not to trust.

My arguments are they always feature brief news abt the imaginary country; be it the PM of Israel admitted to the hosp, or Israel doesn't want to cancel their invasion plan into Palestine. All the news are written such that ignorant readers will feel that Israel is just like any other country in the world, as The Sun did not provide ANY counter-argument to say that Israel is not a country that has a right to exist.

But luckily, this piece of article was published.

And I love it.

But that doesnt mean i'll change my view towards The Sun.

Israel, an imaginary country built on the land of the Palestinians, doing purely evil things on the oppressed and being backed up by the-so-called most powerful nation on earth, the Americans.

Am i too direct?

Perhaps.

But that's the truth....

Metamorphosis

Assalammualaikum.

I hvnt been writing for quite some time now.

Too many things to study, I felt guilty everytime i face the computer, it's as if i'm wasting my time when there are A LOT MORE SUBJECTS to study on.

Someone told me that he feels like a machine.

Then i realised, yes i hv been feeling the same too.

Wake up in the morning, get ready to uni, breakfast, go to uni, study in lib, lecture, lunch, study in lib again, go home, refresh, study, sleep.

The next day, the same thing all over again.

I did not mention praying here but that doesnt mean i don't pray k....

Why metamorphosis?

Why not metaplasia?

Those two means changing of shape.

Well, the first applies to ALL naturally occurring change while the latter applies to cancer cells (i think so, i hvnt revise that yet).

So yes, i'm undergoing metamorphosis now.

Not that i'll evolving into a beautiful butterfly tomorrow (i wish i could, then evolve back into a girl)

As my mum said, i'm undergoing the training to become a doctor, so yes, living like a machine is parts and parcels of it.

People made us live like that.

We just hv to follow that rule to survive in this so-called modern world.

I dont know, i think so.

Just now i told my mum i'm having headache.

But she didnt hear clearly, she asked back, "Heartache or headache?"

Come to think of it again, i think i'm having both.

I hv been talking abt heart vs brain for few years already.

There are times that my heart and my brain go against each other.

I'm NOT talking abt the heart that is pumping blood and the brain located in my skull.

I'm talking abt the heart and the brain which differs us from other creatures on Earth.

Brain does things logically while heart, do things "heart-ly".

Controversial and irony statement..

One week after raya...
I spent my first 3 days of raya at home.
I was SUPPOSED to go back to Kuantan on the 2nd day but something else happened, the trip was cancelled and i ended up going nowhere for raya.
On the 4th day of Raya, i went to IMU library...
Can you believe it?
I can't believe it too...
Hahaha.. I've always value holiday at home so much, and yet i went to the library.
But it turned out the be a beneficial visit to the library after all, i studied quite a lot.
I'm sure i wont study that much if i stayed at home. Too much distractions!
There is the tv, the internet, the bed, and the siblings.
So yes, wednesday, thursday and friday in IMU.. Beneficial, and enjoyable and fun.. =)

What else?
Oh yes, duit raya...
Haha... Eventho i've been living in this world for almost 2 decades, ppl still give me duit raya, well of course they should... I'm not earning yet.
Plus, in chinese culture, one will always get angpow until one gets married. So.....deduce the conclusion!

Sometimes, i'm afraid that someone might just tell me,

"No, i've never said anything like that. Who asked you to think of it that way? You think too much"

Won't that be hurting?
Ever experienced that?
That is EXACTLY why i always like to get a clear explanation on everything.

First Day of Eid

Assalammualaikum.
First day of Eid, how should i classify it?
Busy and noisy plus distracting?

The funny thing is, as soon as the Raya prayer was over, 30mins after that, a group of 7 kids from my neighbouring area came to my hse. They are barely 10 years old, i guessed from their size and behaviours. Of course, i know their mission, collecting duit raya...!! One of my missions when i was small also. I used to walk around the area with my friends and siblings and collect duit raya. By the end of the day, i'll be so full of water, drinking at least one glass of water in each hse i visited. But as i grow up, i stopped walking from hse to hse. The kids received their duit raya from my mother in the living room, and then my mum told them to go to the back and meet my grandma, as she is giving out duit raya too. So the kids got double excited, two duit rayas (is there such a word?) in one hse! So guess what they did next? They tried to go to the upper floor in my hse, hoping there's another person giving out duit raya upstairs. Haha...
When they were saying goodbye, the said "Bye! We'll come again tomorrow yah!"
My mum laughed and told them not to come twice and i added that if they do come again, they'll only get drinks, no second duit raya for them.. Funny little kids..

My father was working today. He set out from home even before the Raya prayers, to perform it in Masjid KLCC or Tabung Haji. He's working with a media company, and so they need to do a coverage for the PM's open hse. My aunts from Penang arrived in the afternoon, followed by two other families. And then my former classmates since standard 5 (!), Praba came to my hse with her family. At that time, my hse was really full and noisy.
The funny thing is, my only Muslim visitors today are the group of kids i mentioned earlier. It was my Chinese relatives who came and visit us, and my friend Praba, is an Indian.
I felt proud to see the harmony in my hse at that time. =) Yeah, Malaysia Boleh...! =)

Praba's family then left, leaving her with me. And so we talked and talked and talked, telling our stories. From the living room, into the car (my bro asked me to send him to the grocery shop) and then to my bedroom and then into the car again (i sent my maid out to the bus station, she's on leave) and to the living room, and then to my bedroom again. Wow.. It sounded like we did not stop talking! Haha... The last time i met her was during my sem 1 holiday, the day Dr M came to IMU. That was abt, 2 months back...

At night, there were a lot of extra food, so i heated up all the food and have our dinner. My three aunts from Penang are staying over tonight while the other 2 families went back to their respective houses already.

So, that's my first day of Raya..

Yes!! It's raya time..!

After one month of fasting, now we can finally celebrate our efforts.

Admittedly, i didnt much ibadah during this one month.

Hope to improve myself next year, if i am given the chance, amin..

This year, i received 4 raya cards!

Which actually breaks my record.

I rarely receive raya CARDS, sms wishes are normal, especially on Raya eve.

So, thanks to my friends (Hui Fong, Zuriani, Beya and Durga) who personally gave me the cards.

And this year, i gave only one raya card personally, and another one via raya card dedication service to my mentor in IMU.

Ok, it's late now. 2 in the morning..

Hv to go to sleep...

Draining

Assalammualaikum.

Yes, i think "draining" will be the most suitable word for me now.
When i was a school girl, i didnt have any trouble with fasting, merely because i went to school half of the day and hv my own time to rest during the other half. When I was in INTEC, doing my A Levels, away from family, fasting became more difficult, i thought it was because i didn't eat as good as i did at home, i thought it was because i didn't have my mother beside me reminding me to take nutritious food, and also to wake me up for sahur.
But this time, the fasting month is really tiring, despite the fact that i AM staying at home and i AM having my mother beside me to remind me to eat good food and to wake me up.
So it turned out that fasting is difficult actually, but i didn't realise it for the first 16 years in my life because i wasn't actually living a life outside home.

Up till now, i didn't have any free evening to sleep and rest like i had once.
I spend my evening in the library, going back home, refresh myself, help in the kitchen and it's break fast time.

So yes, my duties and responsibilities are draining my energy out of me. Every night i slept, exhausted, dozzed off in less than 10mins after putting my head on the pillow.
And now i really felt the experience of fasting, the tireness of it all and the benefits behind all the difficulties and tests.

But wait, my life is not that dull and boring and stressfull.
There are a lot of good things happening also.
Like what?
Like.....like.....like....
Ok, i make new friends...
What else?
My car wheel burst last night, 11+ at night, when there were only 2 of us, me and my girlfriend.
What else?
Ok, i cannot think of anything now but i'm pretty sure there are a lot of good things happening to me, if not i won't be this jovial anymore.

Who is Syeikh Ahmad Yassin?

Syeikh Ahmad Yasin is the founder of HAMAS (Islamic Resistance Movement) based in Gaza. HAMAS main agenda is to liberate the whole Palestine from the occupation of the Zionists. Syeikh Ahmad Yasin was assassinated cruelly on 22nd March 2004 by an Israeli Apache helicopter. He was bombed three times, and what was remained were only pieces of his body.

Biography

Syeikh Ahmad Yasin was born with the name Ahmad bin Ismail bin Yassin. His Palestinian passport recorded that he was born on January 1st 1929 but he claimed that he was born in 1938, 9 years younger than the documented age.

It is worth knowing that on May 15th 1948, the imaginary country, Israel declared its independence. The day after, 5 Arab countries launched an attack towards the newly formed government. The countries were Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. However, these Arab countries lost in the war; "The Arab-Israel 1948 War". At that time, Syeikh Ahmad Yassin was 10 years old. His village was destroyed during the war and he was forced to move out to Gaza with his mother.

During his schooling years, Syeikh Ahmad Yassin was known as a bright and sporty young boy.
However, when he was 16 years old (some sources mentioned 12) he was injured while recreating on a beach. He suffered from spinal cord injury, and was paralysed. He can only move his head, he became a quadriplegic. However, wikipedia mentioned that he was wrestling with his friend when he got injured. As to not create hatred and fight between the two families, he lied about his cause of injury. However, that was what wikipedia reported. The truth is hard to find.

Syeikh Ahmad Yassin got married when he was 22 years old and he was gifted with 11 children. In 1964, he went to Univ Ain Shams in Cairo, Egypt to further his study. However, he was captured by the Egyptian government 2 years after that because he was involved with Ikhwanul Muslimin "IM" (Muslim Brotherhood). IM was not accepted by the Egyptian government.

In 1967, the Zionists started occupating Gaza, and by that time Syeikh Ahmad Yassin was released and he went back to Gaza to serve his own people. He started off with being a teacher, and then a speaker and gradually becoming the Khatib during Friday prayers in the mosque. Being a quadriplegic, people doubted his potential at first but was later mesmerised and motivated by his speeches. He encouraged the youngs in Gaza to come to the mosque an additional of two times in a week. He was trying to nurture the value of mosque-loving in Gaza youngsters. And he succeedeed. The occupation by the Zionists burnt the spirit of the younger generations in Gaza, giving them reasons to stand up and defend their homeland.

During the period 1969-1970, Ikhwanul Muslimin was set up in Gaza, with Syeikh Ahmad Yassin being the leader. In 1973, he set up Islamic Academy while in 1982, he set up Al-Mujahidun Al-Filastiniyyun, an organisation specialising in defending the lands of Palestine and the welfare of its people.

In 1983, Syeikh Ahmad Yassin was captured for possessions of weapons, setting up an underground resistance movement and threatening the existence of Israel country. For all that, he was punished 13 years in the jail. But he was jailed for only 11 months when he was released in an exchange of prisoners between the Palestine Liberation Org (PLO) and the regime.

In 1987, when the Arabs gradually lose their spirit and motivation to liberate Palestine, Syeikh Ahmad Yassin founded HAMAS @ Harakatul Muqawamatil Islamiyyah @ Islamic Resistance Movement as the official wing of Ikhwanul Muslimin in Palestine. The co-founder of HAMAS was a paeditrician, Dr Abdul Aziz Rantisi. The members of HAMAS are those whose hearts are very well attached to the mosque, those who have high jihad spirit.
Syeikh Ahmad Yassin declared, "We chose this road, and will end with martyrdom or victory" and it has been a motto among the warriors of HAMAS ever since. One of Syeikh Ahmad Yassin's main idea was to make sure Israel is eradicated, and not anywhere on the world map anymore (It's worth knowing that the West pictures Syeikh Ahmad Yassin as the terrorist leader, instead of the hero of Palestinians, who despite being paralysed still have the spirit bigger than anyone in liberating his homeland).

In December 1987, Syeikh Ahmad Yassin led the First Intifadha (the uprising). The Intifadha started off when a big Israeli lorry purposedly hit two of Palestinians small lorries, killing 4 people. The uprising was full of spirit, although they weren't supplied with any weaponries. Gaza had all their borders being blocked by the Isrealis. Gaza had become an open prison but that had never dampen the spirit of the Palestinians. One of the infamous act was throwing of stones to Israeli tankers. Useless it may sound, but if it was the only thing the Palestinians can do, it is better than staying indoor, letting the Israelis rape their women, burn their houses and kill their families.

In 1988, the Zionists chased Syeikh Ahmad Yassin out of his house to South Lebanon, and his house in Gaza was demolished. On May 18 1989, Syeikh Ahmad Yassin was captured with hundreds other HAMAS warriors. A year later, he was charged with the murder of Israelis commander and army. He was punished 15 years in the prison (Just as a comparison, in 1982, Ariel Sharon brought in his army to the refugee camp in Sabra and Shatilla in Lebanon and killed more than 3000 refugees! The case was heard in the military court. And a resolution was created: those found guilty were fined 14sen USD!)
Two of Syeikh Ahmad Yassin's sons volunteered to accompany their father in the prison as his health is deteriorating, plus the fact that he is paralysed.
During his imprisonment, Syeikh Ahmad Yassin suffered chronic respiratory and abdominal diseases. He also lost his right-eye sight, blurred vision in the left eye, and muscular deterioration.

In 1992, HAMAS commando team kidnapped a Zionist army, an negotiated for a prisoner exchange. The kidnapped army will be released if the Zionists release Syeikh Ahmad Yassin and a few other old and sick HAMAS fighters. However, Zionist refused and attacked the site where the army was captived and killed 3 HAMAS warriors. The kidnapped army and 2 other Israeli commanders were also killed.

5 years later, in 1997, Khaled Mash'al, the speaker for HAMAS based in Syria was staying in Jordan. During his stay, 2 of Israeli's spies tried to assassinate him but failed miserably. They were caught by the commoners and sent to the Jordan government for trial. The King of Jordan offered to release them with the condition that Syeikh Ahmad Yassin is also released. No one knows how important the 2 Mossad agents are but the regime agreed to release Syeikh Ahmad Yassin after imprisoning and abusing him for 8 years.

The West media reported that Syeikh Ahmad Yassin agreed to be released and promised to "stay quiet" and refrain himself for calling any resistance from the Palestinians but when he resumed his post as HAMAS leader, the West media potrayed him as someone who broke the agreement.

In Sept 2000, Ariel Sharon, the then PM of the imaginary country Israel visited Masjidil Aqsa, the thirs most sacred mosque for Muslims (the West media reported that Ariel Sharon visited Al Aqsa but the Muslim media reported that Ariel Sharon polluted Masjidil Aqsa)
This sparked off the Second Intifadha. Unlike the first, the Second Intifadha was supported by Arab countries and wasn't done only by HAMAS but also by FATAH and Jihad Islami. Not only stones but mortar weapons, and traps were also used. The spirit of Muslims rose up due to the release of Syeikh Ahmad Yassin. Amaliyyah Istisyahidiyyah (known as suicide bombings by the West) also increased. Israel suffered from wealth and lives loss.

3 years later, Sept 6 2003, Israel sent an Apache to bomb Syeikh Ahmad Yassin's house in Gaza. He wasn't killed but few other children were. He was only wounded on his hand. Despite a try of assassination, Syeikh Ahmad Yassin did not try to protect himself. He's still very much a people-man, not having bodyguards surrounding him, still maintaining his daily routine and went to the mosque for daily prayers on his wheelchair. An important question, "Will the leaders now do the same if their enemy tried to kill them?".

6 months later, on 22nd March 2004, Syeikh Ahmad Yassin was being pushed in his wheelchair to his house after a Subuh prayer in the Islamic Academy Mosque in Gaza. His house was very near to the mosque. Half way to his house, an Apache flew over the sky and released 3 bombs onto Syeikh Ahmad Yassin. The bombs cost him his life and his two men. Assalammualaikum.
I hv been wearing up to 3 layers of clothes to IMU for the past few days.
Why? Because i spend a lot of time in the library and the library is very very cold that even my fingers went cramped.
Even the auditorium is comparable to the famous snow house in Genting Highland.
But i couldn't understand how some of my batchmates can stand being in the auditorium with mini skirts and spaghetti straps.
To say that they have enough cellulites as heat insulator embedded under their cutaneous tissue, is ridiculous. Most of them are slim and skinny.
So how can they?

My mother told me once, women in the west have been fighting for women's right since early nineteenth and twentieth century.
And the rights they have been claiming for includes abortion right, voting right, maternity leave, equal pay, and so on and so forth.
Some of the claims are even ridiculous for me.
Man can lift heavy things, be a hardwork labour, and women can't.
Just accept that fact. Why must women fight for equity? The right to be the same as men? Let men do the hard, though, heavy jobs.
If women want to have the same rights as men have, then no man will be a gentleman. No man will offer to carry a woman's heavy bag, no man will give way to woman in a long queue and no man will pay for a meal because the woman is just as capable as he is!
And there will also be no "Ladies first" in the world.
Although there will still be "First Lady".

She also pointed out that there is one aspect these feminists forgot to fight for.
And that is the right to have proper attire.
The west have made it in such a way that only half naked women are considered women, and the fully covered ladies are freaks.
The world now is having such a view that ladies must show what they've got. The quote "Dare to Bare" is almost everywhere.

In a ball, ladies will be expected to wear a gown, a dress.
And the gown must be bareback, the shoulders should be seen, and a cleavage is a must.
If the skirt is long, some legs are expected.
If it's not long, short skirt will be favoured.
For what?
For display.
To feel nice.
To feel good.
To get attention.
To be like others.

In fact, this is actually a major abuse of women's right.
What do men wear for official ceremonies?
What do men wear when women are exposing half of their bodies?
How does a formal attire for a man look like?
How does it compare with a formal attire for a woman?

A man wears a long shirt, necktie and long pants.
The man must also wear a pair of covered shoes, together with the socks.
Who now, suffers more?
Who now, more susceptible to cold?
Who now, is actually being exploited?

I'm not saying men must also wear barebacks, shorts or singlets to official functions. No!!!
What men wears now is smart and cool enough.
But to girls out there, who like to expose what u have, to feel proud of it, to get attention out of it, just remember, "This is an exploitation of women".
Women are supposed to be respected, not for display.

The best jewelry in a jewelry shop is kept in their safebox, with locks and codes.
And those jewelries readily displayed on the shelves are not as valuable.

Attention we get for exposing our "posessions" are cheap attention, temporary ones.
The real attention is who we are (cewah).

So, let's reduce the exposure!

Telematch

Assalammualaikum.
I'm pretty busy today.
I went all around IMU to find muslim studnts from other courses, quite a tough job given the fact that i dont know anyone from other course, neither do i know what course exists in IMU.
And i backed out from a chess tournament which shd be held this saturday in IMU (ooh.. feel real bad abt it but i really cant make it for the tournametnt).

At 345, i went for telematch, an activity organised for the orientation of the new Medicine batch. Since i'm an OO (orientation officer), today is my duty to follow my group members and help them in whatever way i can.

Someone wished me "Happy Wasting Your Time" before i leave the library to join the telematch.
Well, it was quite a not-so-smart-way of spending my hours but study isn't the only thing i shd be doing, is it?
I was ready to be dirty this time but as soon as i reached the field where the telematch was held, my passionate photographer batchmate, Tay handed me a big, bulky, cool, and professional camera.
And i ended up being a cameragirl.. Hahaha..
So, nobody touched me, poured any flour on me, or even sprayed any water on me.
So, thanks Tay for borrowing me the camera and indirectly rescuing me from all the dirts...! Haha...

I cant upload any pic now as all the pics are with Tay, i'll see if i can get hold of those picts tomorrow.

The telematch started at around 5 and supposed to finish at 8pm.
I went out 10mins before 7 to buy food for me and 2 other muslim stdnts for breaking fast.
I was glad that Joash actually appreciated our presence there, despite fasting.
But as Ikmal said, even the Badar War can be won during the fasting month, so fasting cannot be made an excuse.

Anyway, now i'm at home, tired and sleepy.
Need to sleep now, and i'm pretty sure i'll have a hard time waking up for sahur tomorrow. Haiz..

Dublin, Here She Comes...

Assalammualaikum.
Frankly speaking, i have been quite busy and sick for the past few days...
On Friday i went to Seremban, then Malacca to Ain's hse.
On Saturday from Malacca i went to Seremban again, to Atikah's hse.
Then on Sunday from Malacca i went to KLIA and back to my hse.
On Sunday as well I spent almost RM150 for raya in Masjid India.
And for all the 3 days i was not feeling well.
So i rest the whole day at home during Merdeka holiday.
What a patriotic way to celebrate the event.
And the modem in my hse has been faulty since Friday but as i'm away, nobody did anything.
After spending almost 1 hr calling Streamyx, they gave me a resolution; "Miss, u need to go to a computer shop to repair ur modem".. Haiz..
And so i wasnt able to surf my fb, write in my blog or even update my Kaspersky AV this weekend.
And i realised just how important internet connection to me now.
Modern-days-side-effect.

My first day in Malacca was a bit disastrous. Not because of the bad treatment from her family, never ever, they treated us exactly how Muslims are taught to treat guests, with respect and care. But I suffered from hypoxia and hyperglycemia. Haha..

The last thing i ate was tandoori chicken in Shah Alam which my lecturer kindly treated me. And more than 20 hrs after that meal without eating anything, I cant even stand properly.

So that night, when everyone went to Tarawih prayers, i slept alone in the hse, rejuvenating myself.

Before they set off to the surau, i asked if i shd lock the hse up since i'm the only one staying in. She said i dont hv to as she always leave the hse unlocked, the surau is just in front of their hse and it's in a peaceful, little village.

But being me, i did not want to take any risk, i slept with my knife under the pillow. Haha...

Approx 1hr after they come back from Tarawih, i woke up. Felt better though was still dizzy. We helped Ain packed her things up for her departure to Dublin on Sunday.

She packed a whole luggage full of food but needed to take everything out again as JPA instructed the stdnts not to bring any food as the weight limit is only 20kg. And JPa do not want to have any problem arising later in the airport if their luggages are overweight.

So there goes Ain's ketupat, instant noodles, chocolate milk etc etc. And she bought a wool glove. Cute! And so, me and Atikah played with her glove before she gets the chance to use it in Ireland!

On the second day, Ain drove me and Atikah and her 12 year old niece to the beach (i didnt bother to ask what is the name of the beach, and i regretted it now).

We snapped a lot of pictures there and the best thing is, me and Ain accidentally wore the same tshirts and even our hijab is of the same colour... Comelnye... (Perasan sendiri)

Ain's eldest brother then sent us to Melaka Sentral where me and Atikah boarded a bus to Seremban. As soon as we reached Seremban, Atikah's 2nd brother (the one whose wedding function i attended last month) fetched us and we went for watch-hunting. But why? Because Atikah's flying to India (sad...) on Sept 11 and her brother wants to give her a memorable, practical, expensive and nice watch.

And so followed them (her brother and wife and Atikah).

Four of us went to few shops around Seremban town (i dont know the name of the places, not familiar with the places) and our last destination was Jusco.

Frankly speaking, I hvnt fully recover and so during the watch-hunting i was kinda dizzy but the illness is easily forgotten when i'm with Atikah. Haha.. She and her jokes, i even forgot i hvnt been eating since sahur that morning.

There was a funny moment when her brother was driving into the parking area in Jusco, where a woman stared at her brother while me and Atikah's sister-in-law looking at that lady. I dont think i'll be able to deliver the story nicely here, so i'll just let it go.

When we reached Atikah's hse, it's very near to buka puasa time and i managed to help only a bit in laying the table. Most of her brothers and the only sister she have are at home.
And guess what?
I was so lucky that that day was the celebration day of little Harith's birthday.
And so there was a "Chocolate Indulgence" by Secret Recipe. Nyam nyam nyam...

This is the only suitable pict i can upload.
Notice Harith's expression? The whole house roared into laughter when he first learnt how to do that facial expression. Atikah said that little boy had just learnt how to control his own eyebrows. Haha...
For those who don't know, Harith is Atikah's first nephew, her first brother's first son, the apple of everyone's eyes.

The next day, on Sunday we went out of her hse at 7am.
Atikah's parents drove us to KLIA.
Ain's flight was at 10am.
At around 7.50 am she called us, she said she has only 10mins left, and we were still far from KLIA. Atikah's father said there was no way we can reach KLIA in 10mins.
I was very frustrated and blamed myself for setting off late.
My father wanted to fetch me from KLIA at 8am because he knows by then Ain will hv checked in. But being blurr, i did not actually followed his advise.

As we reached KLIA, me and Atikah rushed out the car running into the departure section. And we managed to meet Ain before she checked in.
We managed to snap some picts with her.

The best shot i can have with Ain.

Her mother cried, and she let out some tears too.
We managed to see her for only 10mins before she went in.
And there goes my bestfriend to Dublin, Ireland.

O Allah, please protect my friend over there.
I hope she'll return to Malaysia, safe and sound, successfull in her studies and as a better person.

My father fetched me and Atikah before 9am and we headed to my hse.
Atika spent approx one hr in my hse, going thru my photo albums collection and then we went to Masjid India.
After Masjid India, i sent her to Serdang KTM station and she went back to IMU.
Me?
I drove back home, and went flat as soon as i reached home.
Slept for 2hrs before my mother woke me up to go out for breaking fast.

Is this post long enough?
I dont know, but this a brief account on how i spent my weekend.

I sincerely and honestly pray this friendship will last forever. Amin...

Can't Wait For Tomorrow

Assalammualaikum.
It's been a while since i wrote here (i think this is the very sentence i usually use).
I'm pretty busy lately, what with the new Medicine batch coming in, me becoming an O O (orientation officer) though i am not actually active in it.
And i hv piles of notes to revise; Immuno, Patho, Microbio, Parasito, Virology etc etc...
Not to forget my semester 1 topics which will also be tested in less than 3 months time.

Ramadhan so far has been fun and enjoyable.
Looking forward for a lot more things.

I'd like to congratulate all my friends that had made it to IMU, welcome to IMU (as if any of them is reading this, i doubt they are).
Life in IMU is not as tough as it sounds, neither is it as friendly as we want.
But whatever lies in our path, it's always in our hands to make the best out of it.
We are given intelligent, amusing minds to judge ourselves and the environment, to know what is right or what is wrong.
We are given soul to enjoy what we are having, to appreciate the life we are bestowed with, and to appreciate the ppl around us.
And we are given faith for us to hold on strongly to. For us to fall back on in case our minds and soul failed us.

There are a lot more things we can do with all these (mind, soul and faith) but i'm not listing all of them. I will be writing and writing and missed the opportunity to go to Shah Alam tonight.

Why am i suddenly so philosophical?
No logic reason. Suddenly feel like writing it.
Dont even mind if nobody reads. Hahaha...

What has it got anything to do with tomorrow?
Oh! Tomorrow i'll be meeting my best friends!!! Atikah and Ain!! Here i come!! Nk menyibuk kt rmh korg...!! =P

Assalammualaikum my dear friends!!!
I'm in a happy, jolly good mood now..
Why?
Cos tomorrow is the first day of fasting month...!
But why did i put the title of this post in BM?
Simply because "Yay yay! Tomorrow is the time to fast!" sounds awkward to me, and it doesnt bring the joy and excitement i want it to.

Why is fasting month or specifically, this year's fasting month overjoyed me?
I can't answer that myself.
Perhaps i have a lot of dopamine circulating in me.
And also, perhaps it's because this is the first time i'm gonna fast in IMU, and i can't wait to see how it goes.
And maybe I am a little bit more grown up this year that I started to appreciate the benefit of Ramadhan, the holy month.

So here, i'd like to tell a few stories abt the Ramadhans i went thru. =)

When I was born

Feeling weird? How can i tell a story that happened when i was born?
Well, my mum told me this story (as most of u will probably hv brilliantly guessed).
I was born on the 3rd of Ramadhan.
And my father was a tailor, in our small house in Kg Pasir, Ulu Klang abt 19 yrs back.
I remembered he had 3 sewing machines when i was abt 10; I'm not sure how many he had when I was born.
When I was still a less-than-a-month baby, or a neonate as medical field puts it, I was always shocked.
Not by electricity, but by noises.
Whenever my father pressed the pedal on his sewing machine, it will produce a very loud sound. Perhaps it wasnt loud enough for an adult, but it was certainly enough to scare me off and woke me up.
And i'll start crying. I'll be very shocked and my mother needed to calm me down.
And since we were staying in a small, little peaceful village, the kids always play firecrackers during the fasting season (doesn't that sound familiar? Kids always like to play firecrackers"
And they always play in front of my house.
Whenever any of the firecrackers explode, i'll get shocked and scared and woke up and started crying again.
And so my mother needed to soothe me down again.
And that happened every night.
That is why (my mother said), i'm easily shocked @ frightened.
I jumped out of my skin easily.
My mother is still jokingly blaming my father for it.

During my pre-school years

My family have this one yearly tradition. We wil go to our relative's hse at least once every Ramadhan to break fast with them.
We usually drove to Kuantan, Pahang for that purpose but this year, due to some internal affairs, we might not be able to make it.
But anyway, one day during my pre-school years, my mother decided to go to my grand uncle's hse to break fast. And of course, we'll bring some food from home and my mother cooked crab at that time. I dont know what the menu is called but my hse will simply address the dish as "cook crab" or "masak ketam" in Bahasa.
And crab is one of my favourite food. And so, on that day i excitedly fast.
Well, my mother had always been lenient to me. When i was small, i always fast half day.
Rarely do i get to fast one whole day. But i do now, of course!
So on the day my mother cooked crab that year, i fasted one whole day.
My grand uncle's hse wasnt far from our little hse in the small village.
So at around 5pm, we were still at home.
And my mother asked me to buy something at the grocery shop while she cook.
My mother told me that ppl who do not fast can't break fast, and that will mean that that person cannot eat the breaking fast dishes.
While at the grocery store, I bought myself an ice-cream.
And on my way back, i ate the ice cream and when i was passed thru some houses along the way, with their residents hanging out in front of their houses, the residents looked at me weirdly (i think or so i imagined).
I didnt care, i continued to lick my ice-cream until it suddenly strucked me: i was fasting!!!
And i'm not supposed to eat that ice cream!
But by that time, the ice cream finished. I dropped the ice cream stick and ran back home, panickly.
I rushed to my mum and apologised and pleaded and begged to her so that i can still eat the crab. I told her that i forgot i was fasting and i finished one ice cream on the way back from the grocery store.
I was very very panicked and sad and angry because i couldn't eat the crab now, bcause i didnt fast.
But my mother laughed and said Allah will forgive me.
I was still a kid, and i forgot that i was fasting. It's not like i purposedly ate the ice cream.
And so she said my fast was still valid. I was still considered "the one who fast" and was still entitled for the crab.
It relieved me, but i was still embarrased. I kept repeating to my mother that all the uncles and aunts in front of their hse just now will think that i am a girl who do not fast. I was so sure that all the uncles and aunts will laugh at me.
But come to think of it again now, if i see a 4, 5 year old Muslim girl eating in front of me in the fasting month, i will never laugh at them. Bcause it's totally normal.
And so, before we reached my grand uncle's hse, i made my mother swore not to tell them that i accidentally finished an ice cream. Hahaha...
And i dont think she did, bcos if she really did, i think i'll definitely remember their laughter.

One day during my lower secondary school years

Another incident was when i was in my lower secondary.
I forgot which year was it exactly but at that time, my mother was still a teacher in my school.
It was a school holiday but my mother needed to go to school to finish off her work (she's such a workaholic).
And so i followed her to school.
My mother was the library teacher and so, she had her desk in the office in the library.
She left me in her office alone while she went down to the school admin office.
In her office, there was one big tin of biscuits.
The biscuits are for her fellow student librarians who needed to stay back for their duty.
If the student is a morning session stdnt, he/she will hv to stay during the evening and vice versa.
So i took the biscuits and ate them.
I ate until my mother came back to her office and upon seeing me eating the biscuit, she asked surprisedly, "Aren't u fasting?"
I was blurr and i said, "What?"
And then she said, "Dear, this is the fasting month. Remember?"
And i choked when she said that.
I ran out of her office, went to the corridor and spitted out every single biscuits left in my mouth at that time.
And i felt awful.
How could i forget i was fasting??
And i ate a lot of biscuits already when she was away.
But then i told myself, "Okay, let's assume the biscuits i ate are my luck. It's not like i purposely eat it".
And so, i continued to fast.

Today

Today, I am almost 20.
And i really hope any kind of those incidents wont occur again to me this time.
Pray for me, and i'll pray for u guys too.
Haha...
So again, my best wishes for all Muslims starting to fast tomorrow....
