Which One is Al Aqsa?

Assalammualaikum.

I googled "Masjidil Aqsa".
And i found two different mosques.

As far as i know, there's no mosque with 2 domes. Thus, this means that this two mosques are different.

I also found articles saying that the Israelis are trying to confuse Muslims between Al Aqsa Mosque and their Dome of Rock.

But, as i'm losing my trust to articles on the net, i don't know as to which one to trust. Who knows the article is trying to manipulate the confusion the other way around?

But i think the one with yellow dome is not Al-Aqsa.
Because that "building" looks newer.
I thought Al-Aqsa shd be old?
And also, when i google "Dome of Rock", the yellow dome building appeared.

Assalamualikum.

The mosque that the prophet ascended from, al-Aqsa mosque, is the one shown in the second photo i.e. the one with the light brown brick and grey dome. The dome of the rock is the golden coloured one and is not the mosque in old Islamic history. Muslims should know the difference. The mosque is of great significance. Al-Aqsa and the dome of the rock are in the same 'complex' in Jerusalem. About 500m apart or something like that.

Here's a good diagram...

and here's something which may be of interest...
http://tinyurl.com/ddfcga (History of Al Aqsa Mosque)

It's interesting that about a year ago, some friends and I were discussing all these beautiful "Islamic structures" (mosques etc) and we all broadly agreed that NONE of these structures existed in the time of the prophet. The mosques at the time of the prophet were (I guess) quite modest. After the eastern invasion by the Mongol hordes in which they destroyed large numbers of Islamic 'things', the remnants of the Mongol empire gradually converted to Islam and rebuilt much of what they had previously destroyed. The rebuilt structures are quite amazing architecture. Central Asia is rich marvellous structures in this as is Iran (some of whose Islamic structures were supposed to have avoided destruction)

Much of the 'humbleness' has gone out of these ‘grand’ structures. I think spending large amounts of money of 'beautifications' is not good while people die of hunger, disease and so forth. I wonder if the prophet would have approved? Does ‘spend in the way of Allah’ mean spend it on grand mosques or on lifting the people out of poverty and ensuring the basics are met first? Hummm. A fine looking mosque doesn’t help the hungry fill his stomach. And they don’t seem to offer shelter to the homeless. homelessness.

Just look at Masjid al-Harram in Mecca today. It looks nothing like what it did at the time of the prophet (or even about 100 years ago: see this: http://www.mecca.com/photo_serving.php?photo_id=637487&type=large)

Have you seen the new plans for the development of Mecca? I’ve seen the developers brochure. I had an uneasy feeling when I was looking at it. Perhaps I should welcome it? Perhaps my dislike is not rational? but I feel too many Muslims need the money spent on them just trying to survive. Poverty among Muslims is very bad.

‘Visual beauty’ monopolises our perceptions of ALL beauty. Sadly, visual beauty is the least useful or worthy part of beauty, and we ALL fall foul of putting it first. Especially these days, what with the constant ‘perfect world’ of the advertising industry blasted into our brains every day

Re: info and truth on the www

Info on the web ranges from outright lies, up through varying degrees of correctness and finally to the truth. People being people, sometimes mix different aspects of that. The problem of what to believe/trust never goes away. Here's what I do…

If there is a known or obvious injustice out there, e.g. Palestine, Indian farmers, Kurds in Turkey, Aborigines, Embrace the information that sides with them. Be on the side of the oppressed.

Information that excuses/supports/promotes/encourages the oppressor (e.g. Monsanto, Galaxo Wellcome, Tesco, International Monetary Fund, some national governments etc) then automatically take that info as propaganda and untrustworthy.

When ever I do this, I have never been offered information that required me to reassess that opinion. Whereas in the past, when I sided with the oppressors (not really understanding at the time that they were actually oppressors) then eventually I had to change my opinion of them as I became more knowledgeable.

I believe Allah demands we fight oppression, so side with the meek and the oppressed, you can't go wrong! All great people throughout history have done that.

That’s been a good guideline for me. Also, trust your own sense of logic.

waalaikumsalam.
yes, i received an email on mecca's latest plan.
it looks beautiful and very sophisticated. i received that email after reading ur 1st comment. if i hadnt, my 1st thought will be "wow, this is cool. muslims will be respected cos their holy sacred place is so superb, and advanced".
but upon reflecting it again, i realised that with that amount of money spent to beautify mecca, it will be better to use the money to help our own muslims.
but that doesnt mean no development shd been done to improve the condition of mecca. not to say that the condition is bad, as i hvnt been there but, with time, mecca juz cant stay like that without advancing. so i think "making mecca more efficient and easy for muslims" is better that "making mecca more beautiful so that non-muslims will be awed and muslims get to be proud".
=) *juz an opinion of a shallow-knowledged student.
